1mm前に進むため

今、週末の5歳の息子と連弾のためにピアノの練習をしている。今回、息子との連弾で弾くのは「くまんばちの飛行」と「ぶんぶんぶん蜂が飛ぶ」の合体した曲。自分が「くまんばちの飛行」息子は「ぶんぶんぶん蜂が飛ぶ」。だいぶ簡素化してもらっているけれど、二人でタイミングを合わせるのは何気に難しい。どちらかというと、息子より、自分のほうが間違えたり、テンポが狂ってしまう。

5歳の息子との連弾で苦戦している今の状況を考えると、プロのピアニストの方々って本当にすごい。
なお、ピアニストについて、ドラッカーも言っている。

「ピアニストは何ヶ月も開くことなく、音階を練習する。技能はごくわずか向上するだけである。ただ、このわずかな向上が既に内なる耳によって聞いている音楽を実現させる。成果を上げる能力とは積み重ねによるものである。我々は情報を頭を使わずに答えられるようになるまで反復することによって、習得する。言葉を学ぶのも、この方法によってである。九九を覚えるのも、この方法によってである」

ピアニストの方々が毎日毎日、音階を練習し、わずかにでも向上するため、１mmでも前に進むためどれだけの努力をしているか、痛感する。5歳の息子の小さな手がピアノの鍵盤を走り回る様子を見るのは微笑ましいく思いながらも、人生すべてにおいて、繰り返しの練習で得る「わずかな向上」の大切さに改めて感銘した1日。

I am practising for a piano recital with my five year old son this weekend. The piece I am playing with my son is a combination of ‘Flight of the Bumble Bee’ and ‘Bun Bun Bumble Bee Flies’. I play ‘Flight of the Flying Bumble Bee’ and my son plays ‘Bun Bun Bumble Bee Flies’. I’ve simplified it a lot, but we both find it difficult to get the timing right. If anything, I make more mistakes and lose the tempo than my son.

Considering the current situation where I am struggling to give lessons to my five-year-old son, professional pianists are truly amazing.Drucker also said this about pianists.

A pianist practises scales for months. His skill improves only slightly. But that slight improvement brings out the music his inner ear is already hearing. Playing is a cumulative process. We acquire information by repeating it until we can respond without using our brain. This is how we learn language. It is also how we learn ninety-nine.

I was again impressed by the pianist’s daily efforts to practise scales, to make even the slightest progress, to move even a millimetre forward, and I smiled when I saw my five-year-old son’s little hands running around the piano keys.
