創業者は一生引退できない
うちに読まずにあった雑誌「致知」でユニクロ柳井さんの記事を読んだ。自分は誠眼鏡店を15年間、新宿と銀座で運営させてもらっている。たった4人で回している小さな店舗。ユニクロなどに比べようもないけれど、さすが柳井さんのおっしゃることは、改めてとっても刺激的だった。
今回、今の自分にひっかかった柳井さんの４つの言葉
「経営者ほど新しいことに挑戦できる立場はない。ただ自分勝手にやってる人は絶対だめになる」経営者は常に新しいアイデアや戦略を模索し、それを実行に移す力を持っている。ただ自分勝手にやっているだけではダメで、周囲の協力を得て初めて成功が訪れる。「あいつがあれほど努力しているのだったら協力してやろう」という精神が重要とのこと。そこまでの努力が周囲を巻き込み、協力を得る力となる。
「運を開いていくには、自分が運が良いと思わなければならない。」
ポジティブなマインドセットを持ち、自分が成功することを信じることが、実際の成功に繋がる。そして、トップである自分が「これをやるんだ」という強い意志を持たない限り、何も実現しない。そして、自分勝手にやってる人は絶対だめになる。
「あっち行ったりこっち行ったりは無駄。腹をくくって行き着くとこまで行く」
ビジネスは一貫性が重要であり、短期的な変動に惑わされることなく、長期的な目標に向かって粘り強く進むことがやはり重要。
「創業者は一生引退できない。企業に安定なんかない」
柳井さんの最も大きな逆境は、フリースブームでの成功の後に訪れたという。49歳の時に大成功を収めた柳井さんは、50歳を過ぎたら引退しようと考えていた。そして、引退しようと考えた後、すぐに後継者を育てて交代する予定だった。しかし、現実はそう簡単ではなく、結局、創業者は引退できないことに気づいたと言う。そして「経営は、逃れられない自分の生きがいだ」と改めて感じたという。
以上、柳井さんが人生で実際感じられたという経験の言葉。人生は一直線に進むものではないけれど、やっぱり志を持ち続けることが大切なのだ。

I read an article by Mr Uniqlo Yanai in ‘Chichi’ magazine. I have been running Makoto Opticians in Shinjuku and Ginza for 15 years. It is a small shop run by just four people. Although I cannot compare it to UNIQLO, what Mr Yanai said was very inspiring.
Four words from Mr Yanai that stuck with me this time
No one is able to take on new challenges like a manager.
Managers are constantly looking for new ideas and strategies and have the power to put them into action. It is not enough to do things alone; success only comes with the cooperation of those around you. The spirit of “if this person is making this much effort, I’ll work with them” is important, he says. The effort is the power to get others involved and to get their cooperation.
To open yourself to happiness, you have to believe that you are happy.
People who are selfish will never make it.Having a positive attitude and believing you can succeed is what actually leads to success. And if you, as the top person, do not have a strong will to do it, nothing will happen. And people who are selfish will never make it.
There is no point in going this way and that way.
You have to be determined and go as far as you can.Consistency is important in business, and it is important not to be swayed by short-term fluctuations, but to persevere in the pursuit of long-term goals.
The founder can never retire. There is no stability in a company.
Yanai’s greatest adversity came after his success with the fleece boom: having achieved great success at the age of 49, he decided to retire when he turned 50. And having thought about retiring, he planned to train his successor to take his place soon after. However, he says the reality was not so simple and eventually the founder realised that he could not retire. He also said that he once again felt that management was his life’s work and that he could not escape it.
These are words of experience that Mr Yanai has actually felt in his life. Life is not a straight line, but it is important to hold on to your aspirations.
