ロマンは、金銭的に考えると全くあわない
ロマン。
月に行く。世界一周旅行。エベレストに登る。これらのロマンは、実はお金の面で考えると全く合わない。
月に行くには莫大なお金がかかる。ロケットの開発費や、宇宙飛行士の訓練費用、さらには安全を確保するための保険など、考えれば考えるほどお金が必要。「そんなお金があるなら、もっと実用的なことに使えばいいのに」と思う人が普通だし、90%以上の人がそういうだろう。特に近い人、身内で近くなればなるほど、強く言われる。
ただ、この無駄なロマンがないと人生なんのために生きているのかわからないくなる。この無駄なロマンこそが人生を豊かにする。
世界一周旅行だってそう。飛行機のチケット、宿泊費、食費、お土産代など、全部を合わせるとかなりの金額。「そんなにお金を使うなら、貯金しておいたほうがいい。家の頭金にでもしたほうが良い」と考えるのは普通。でも、通常とは違う世界中の文化に触れ、新しい友達を作り、思い出をたくさん作ることは、何にもかえられない。
ロマンを追い求めることは、しばしば経済的には合理的ではない。でも、だからこそ、この非合理的な部分がロマンの魅力的で、人生に必ず必要なもの。
「なんでそんなことにそんなお金を使うの？」と疑問に思うようなことこそが、心を豊かにし、人生に彩りを与える。
最近、自分の心が固く硬直していっているなと思って、ふと改めてそんなことを思った。
もちろん、自分は６人家族のパパだから、日常生活に必要なお金をきちんと管理することは大切。でも、時には無駄と思えるようなことにお金を使うことで得られる経験や喜びも、人生には欠かせない。
無駄に思えること、その過程で得られるものはやっぱり、人生を豊かにしてくれる。
人生に喜びが見出せずらくなったら、金銭的には、まったく合わないロマンを追おう！

Romance. Dreams, hopes and ideals.
A trip to the moon. To travel around the world. Climb Mount Everest. In fact, pursuing romance is often not economically rational.
Going to the moon costs an enormous amount of money. The more you think about it, the more money you need: the cost of developing rockets, training astronauts and even insurance to ensure safety. People usually think, and more than 90% of them would say this, that “if you’ve got that kind of money, why don’t you spend it on something more practical? The closer you are to someone, especially if you are close to them or their family, the more strongly they say this.
But without this useless romance, you don’t know what you are living for in life. It is this useless romance that makes life rich.
The same is true of travelling around the world. The cost of plane tickets, accommodation, food, souvenirs, etc., adds up to a considerable amount of money. If you’re going to spend that much money, you might as well save it. It is normal to think ‘if I have to spend that much money, I might as well save it for a deposit on a house’. But there is nothing like experiencing different cultures from all over the world, making new friends and making lots of memories.
Pursuing romance is often not economically rational. But that is what makes this irrational part of romance so attractive and a must in life.
Why spend all this money? It is the things that make us ask ‘why’ that enrich our hearts and give colour to our lives.
I have been thinking lately that my heart has become hard and rigid, and I suddenly thought about this again.
Of course, I am the father of a family of six, so it is important for me to manage the money needed for everyday life. But sometimes the experiences and joys that come from spending money on things that seem useless are also essential in life.
What seems like a waste of money, and what you gain from it, will surely enrich your life.
