興味があるものがわからない
娘の中学校で、1時間「生き方を考える」という講話の機会をいただいた。自らの未来を切り開くためにという副題で、自分の生き方について考えるというもの。
生き方を考えるというのは、簡単なようで本当に難しく、おそらく何歳になっても結論がでるものではない。逆に自分も「自分の人生はこれだ！」と思ったものが、変わることもしょっちゅう。
まず、自分の人生を充実して生きるために、自分が好きなことに携わる。興味のあることに携わるというのが出てくると思うけれど、そもそも自分の興味があるものがわからない。
これは45年生きている自分もそうで、たまに見失う。定期的に会う人会う人に「なんで生きているんですか？何を生きがいに生きているんですか？」と聞きまくってしまう時期があるぐらいだ。
そこで思ったのが「自分の好きなものはなんですか？」と聞かれたときに、なんか大それた事をと考えると出てこない。日常のちょっとしたことから探す。さらに自分の人生と直結しなさそうなことからでも探す。
朝の日差しの数分間が好き。
なぜか踏切の音を聞くと落ち着く。
正月に嗅いだお線香の匂いがなんとも心地よかった。
そんなことでもいい。そんなところの中にも必ず潜んでいる。そのあとは、そういうのをまとめて、何か共通点を探す。なぜ好きなのか考える。とりあえず、朝日がめっちゃ最高な場所を世界中で探してみる。踏切の音を日本中聞いてみる。
そういったことをしていると、稀に、ほんとう稀に、自分が継続的に興味が湧くことが見つかる。興味のあることの発掘は、いつまでたっても大変だ。むしろ大人になってからのほうが大変だ。なので、日常の小さな小さなことに継続的に意識を払うようにしよう。

I don’t know what interests me
At my daughter’s secondary school I was given the opportunity to give a one-hour talk on ‘Thinking about how to live’. with the aim of shaping one’s own future.
Thinking about how to live seems easy, but it’s really difficult, and you probably won’t come to a conclusion no matter how old you are. On the contrary, I too have thought, “This is my life!” but things often change.
The first thing to do to live your life to the fullest is to get involved in what you love. I think it comes down to doing what you’re interested in, but I don’t know what I’m interested in.
It is the same for me, having lived for 45 years, and sometimes I lose sight of it. I am regularly asked by people I meet, “Why are you alive? What is your purpose in life?” There are times when I ask myself.
Then I thought, “What do you like?” When you ask, “What do you like?” if they think of something big, it doesn’t come up. I start by looking for something small in my everyday life. I also look for things that don’t seem to be directly related to my life.
I like a few minutes of sunshine in the morning.
The sound of a railway crossing calms me down for some reason.
The smell of incense at New Year’s was very pleasant.
It doesn’t matter if it’s something like that. It always lurks in those places. Then you put these things together and look for something in common. Think about why you like them. Right now I’m trying to find more places in the world where the sunrise is the best. Try to listen to the sound of railway crossings all over Japan.
Rarely, very rarely, find something that interests you all the time. It’s always hard to find what you’re interested in. In fact, it is even harder when you are an adult. So try to pay constant attention to the little, little things in your daily life.
