映画『オブリビオン』は予言だった？現在のドローン戦争の現実に、背筋が凍る。

今日もまたロボットの話になってしまうけれど、このニュースは無視できなかった。

ウクライナ戦争の現状を見ていて、背筋が寒くなった。

現地の死傷者の70%〜80%が、ドローン（特にFPVドローン）によるものだという。

かつては砲撃が死因のトップだった。

でも今は違う。

空からの監視。

逃げ場のない追跡。

小さな機械が、人間を狩り立てている。

それに対抗するために、今度は「熱感知されないマント」が実戦投入されているらしい。

ウクライナの技術開発チーム「Brave1」が開発したもので、サーマルカメラに映らないよう体温を遮断し、ドローンの「目」をごまかすのだという。

これを聞いて、映画『オブリビオン』を思い出さずにはいられなかった。

トム・クルーズ主演のこの映画だ。

自律型のセキュリティ・ドローンが空を飛び回り、地上の人間を見つけ次第攻撃する。

人間たちは生き延びるために、ステルス装備で身を隠し、岩陰で息を潜めてドローンのセンサーから逃れる。

実は『オブリビオン』は、自分の大好きな映画のひとつだ。
ドローンや戦闘の描写が好きなのではない。
トム・クルーズが帰還する、あの空に浮かぶ家──上空の司令室。
スケルトンのプール。
空中に浮いたまま、太陽を浴びて水に身を預けるあのシーン。
あれがあまりに美しくて、いつか本気であんな場所に住んでみたいとすら思っている。
自分の夢をイメージするために、今でも定期的に見返しているほどだ。

けれど……
自分が憧れた美しい未来よりも先に、
恐ろしい方の未来が、現実になってしまっているようだ。

この映画のドローン、あれは未来の予言だったのかもしれない。

上空を旋回する無機質な機械と、

泥の中でマントを被って、体温さえ消して怯える人間。

あの光景が今、そのまま現実にある。

フランスの小説家で、SFの父と呼ばれるジュール・ヴェルヌの言葉がある。

「人間が想像できることは、人間が必ず実現できる」

本当にそうなんだろう。

便利なAIも、空飛ぶ車も。

そして、人間を追い詰める自律ドローンも、姿を消すマントも。

良いことも、悪いことも、残酷なことも。

人が頭の中で描いてしまったものは、すべて現実になっていく。

すべて。

もれなく、すべて。

Was “Oblivion” a prophecy? The chilling reality of today’s drone warfare.

Once again, I find myself talking about robots—but this time, the news was impossible to ignore.

Looking at the current state of the war in Ukraine sent a chill down my spine.

Reports say that 70–80% of casualties on the front lines now come from drones, especially FPV drones.

There was a time when artillery was the leading cause of death.
But not anymore.

Now it’s surveillance from above.
Relentless tracking with no escape.
Small machines hunting human beings.

And to counter those drones, Ukraine has reportedly started using a new kind of equipment: a “thermal invisibility cloak”.

Developed by Ukraine’s tech team Brave1, it’s a cloak designed to hide body heat from thermal cameras, tricking the “eyes” of enemy drones.

The moment I read that, I couldn’t help but think of the film Oblivion.

The one starring Tom Cruise.

In that movie, autonomous security drones patrol the skies, attacking humans the moment they spot them.
People cling to survival by hiding under stealth gear, pressing themselves into the shadows of rocks, trying desperately to evade the drones’ sensors.

Oblivion is actually one of my favorite films.
Not because of the drones or the action scenes.
But because of the beautiful house in the sky—the command station floating in the clouds.
The glass pool suspended above the world.
That scene of swimming in the air, soaking in the sunlight, is so beautiful that I’ve genuinely dreamed of living in a place like that someday.
I rewatch the film regularly, almost as a way to refresh my imagination.

But now…

Before the beautiful future I admired could arrive,
the frightening one seems to have become reality first.

Those drones in Oblivion—they might have been a prediction of what was to come.

A cold, mechanical eye circling overhead.
Humans crouched in mud, covering themselves with cloaks that hide their body heat.
That exact image now exists on real battlefields.

There’s a quote from Jules Verne, the French writer often called the father of science fiction:

“Whatever one man can imagine, another man can make real.”

I think that’s true.

Helpful AI.
Flying cars.
And also autonomous drones that hunt people.
Cloaks that erase human presence.

The good, the bad, and even the cruel.

Once something is imagined by the human mind, it eventually becomes real.

All of it.
Every bit.
Without exception.
