最近、ソニーコンピュータサイエンス研究所（ソニーCSL）のニュースに、心を奪われた。

2025年、発表された「外骨格ロボット」。

指先に装着し、トレーニングを繰り返せば、ピアノの演奏スキルが飛躍的に向上するという。

ロボットに身を委ねるだけで、技術が身につく。

まるでSFの世界だ。

脳で理解し、体を動かす。

従来の学習プロセスを、このロボットは飛び越える。

正しい動きの感覚を、直接、筋肉と神経に「書き込む」のだ。

スキルの、物理的なインストール。

ピアノだけじゃない。

スポーツ選手のフォーム矯正。

外科医の精密な手技。

職人技術の伝承、そしてリハビリテーション。

これまで「才能」や「長年の鍛錬」と呼ばれた領域に、新しい扉が開く。

でも、ここで一つの問いが浮かぶ。

苦しい練習を乗り越えて身につけたスキルと、ロボ-ットの補助で短期間に習得したスキル。

そこに、価値の違いは生まれるのだろうか。

「努力」や「根性」といった言葉が持つ、ある種の神聖さは、過去のものになるのかもしれない。

しかしこれは、努力が不要になるという話ではないのだろう。

退屈な反復練習から、人間は解放される。

そして、そのスキルをどう表現するか、という、より創造的な「思考」にエネルギーを集中できるようになる。

努力の「量」から、努力の「質」へ。

アニメ「攻殻機動隊」の世界が、また一歩、現実に近づいてきたようだ。

The Physical Installation of Skill

Recently, I was captivated by news from Sony Computer Science Laboratories (Sony CSL).

In 2025, they announced an “exoskeleton robot.”

They say that by wearing it on your fingertips and repeating the training, your piano skills will dramatically improve.

To acquire a skill, just by entrusting yourself to a robot.

It’s like something out of science fiction.

To understand with the brain, then move the body.

This robot leaps over that conventional learning process.

It “writes” the feeling of the correct movements directly onto the muscles and nerves.

A physical installation of skill.

And not just for piano.

Correcting an athlete’s form.

A surgeon’s delicate technique.

Passing down artisan skills, and rehabilitation.

A new door is opening into a realm once called “talent” or “long years of arduous training.”

But here, one question arises.

A skill acquired by overcoming grueling practice, versus a skill learned in a short time with a robot’s help.

Will there be a difference in their value?

The certain sacredness held by words like “effort” and “grit” may become a thing of the past.

But this is likely not a story about effort becoming unnecessary.

Humans will be freed from tedious, repetitive practice.

And they will be able to focus their energy on more creative “thought”—on how to express that skill.

From the “quantity” of effort, to the “quality” of effort.

It feels as if the world of the anime Ghost in the Shell has just gotten one step closer to reality.
