お客様におすすめされて、新宿の北村写真館でフィルムカメラを買ってみた。

デジカメの時代に、現像するまでわからない。さらに写真の枚数も限定されて、値段もかかる。

この時代に、あえて有限。そして不便。

そういったものが流行っている。おもしろい現象だ。

昔ならただのガラクタだった、昔のデジカメすら今注目されている。

技術の進歩によって「古くて使えない」と思われていたものが、逆に「新鮮で魅力的」になる。時代の皮肉というか、面白い循環だと思う。

スマホで何千枚でも撮れる時代に、36枚しか撮れないフィルムカメラを選ぶ。画像をすぐに確認できる時代に、現像まで待つ楽しみを選ぶ。

フィルムカメラの魅力は、まさにその制約にあるのかもしれない。

うちも眼鏡屋として、こういったことをもう一度考えてみよう。

最新の技術、最高の機能、最大の便利さ。それらを追求するのは大切だ。でも一方で、あえて制約のある商品、手間のかかる商品にも価値があるのかもしれない。

手作りの温かみ、職人の技術、時間をかけた丁寧な仕上げ。デジタル化が進む中で、逆にアナログの価値が見直されている。

フィルムカメラの復活は、単なる懐古趣味ではない気がする。

効率化、自動化、最適化。すべてが高速で進む現代において、人々が求めているのは「ゆっくりと味わう時間」なのかもしれない。

写真を撮る行為そのものを楽しむ。現像を待つ時間を楽しむ。一枚一枚の重みを感じる。

すべてを効率化するのではなく、大切な部分では時間をかける。すべてを自動化するのではなく、人の手が入る余地を残す。

A customer recommended it to me, so I went to Kitamura Camera in Shinjuku and bought a film camera.

In the age of digital cameras, you can’t see the result until it’s developed. Furthermore, the number of photos is limited, and it costs money.

In this day and age, it’s intentionally finite. And inconvenient.

And yet, things like this are becoming popular. It’s a fascinating phenomenon.

Even old digital cameras, which would have been considered mere junk in the past, are now getting attention.

It’s a kind of historical irony, or perhaps an interesting cycle, that things once thought “old and useless” due to technological progress have conversely become “fresh and appealing.”

In an era where you can take thousands of photos with your phone, people are choosing a film camera that can only take 36 shots. In an age where you can check images instantly, people are choosing the joy of waiting for them to be developed.

Perhaps the charm of a film camera lies precisely in its limitations.

Because the number of shots is limited, you shoot each one with care. Because you don’t know the result until it’s developed, you feel a sense of excitement. Because it costs money, you don’t waste shots.

As a result of perfecting convenience, we’ve conversely started to find value in inconvenience. Human psychology is complex and interesting.

As an optician running my own business, this is something I want to think about again.

Pursuing the latest technology, the best functions, and the greatest convenience—all of that is important. But on the other hand, perhaps there is also value in products with constraints, products that require a little more effort.

The warmth of something handmade, the skill of an artisan, the careful finish that takes time. As digitalization advances, the value of analog is being re-evaluated.

I feel like the revival of the film camera is not just simple nostalgia.

Efficiency, automation, optimization. In a modern world where everything moves at high speed, perhaps what people are searching for is “time to savor things slowly.”

To enjoy the act of taking a photo itself. To enjoy the time spent waiting for the development. To feel the weight and importance of each individual shot.

What I learned from the film camera is the value of “intentionally offering inconvenience.”

Instead of making everything efficient, you take your time with the important parts. Instead of automating everything, you leave room for the human touch.

Perhaps this is the new definition of “luxury” in the modern age.

Holding a film camera in my hands at Kitamura Camera made me think a lot about business.
