インド3日目、ナグプール。佐々井上人。
インド3日目、ナグプール。まずは朝10kmほどランニング。そもそもインドはランニングという習慣がないのか、街を走っているとほぼすべての人に凝視される。なんでお前はわざわざ走っているのだ？？何が楽しくてわざわざ走る必要があるのだ？皆さん、そんな感じ。小学生ぐらいの子は、珍しいのか純粋に手を振ってくれる。
朝食はアミットさんが長年食べているという屋台でご馳走に。なおインドの道端にある屋台。どこでも営業してよいわけではなく、その場所でしか営業できないよう。ご馳走になった屋台も30年以上そこで営業を続けているということ。自分のイメージでは、屋台は朝方、人の多そうなところに来て、営業が終わったら帰っていくイメージだったので以外。逆に場所が定まっているので、お店のようにわざわざその屋台を目指して食事にくる人が結構いるという。
朝食の後は、佐々井上人の元へ。90歳とは見えない佐々井上人。突然の訪問にもかかわらず、しっかりお話をしていただけた。さらに私たちが1日しかいないことを告げると本当に残念、時間があれば私自ら色々と案内してあげたかったと恐れ多いお言葉。なお佐々井上人、他の住職などにお叱りをしたり、指示を出す際はドスの聞いたお声を出されているが、笑ったお顔が本当に可愛らしい。なんでこんなに可愛らしい笑顔になるのだろう。自分も佐々井上人のような笑顔を目指そう。
その後、予定があり佐々井上人は付き添えないが、お寺と発掘した仏教遺跡を見に行ってみなさいとアドバイスを受け、アミットさんに連れて行っていただけることに。なおアミットさん、佐々井上人の秘書的なことをされているものの、お坊さんではなくビジネスマン。現在はファッションのお店、ペットショップをナグプールで経営されている。以前はスチールビジネスでインド中を飛び回られていたのだそう。
そんなビジネスマンのアミットさん、自分たちが来たので、わざわざ1日休みをとってくれたそう。お仕事もあるだろうに、アミットさんと専任のドライバーさんが1日仏教遺跡を案内していただけた。
夕方19時のバンガロール便があったので、バタバタとナグプールを後にすることに。本当にいたれりつくせりのナグプール。
ナグプールを出て21時にバンガロール到着。バンガロール、ここも街が驚くほどきれい！あと発展している。アミットさんがインドで一番発展している都市だとおっしゃっていたけれど、確かに間違いない。印象としてはジャカルタと同じような印象。インドは都市によって本当にまったく違う。

Nagpur, India. The morning started with a 10km run. First of all, most people look at me strangely when I run in the city, as if it is not customary to run in India. Why bother running? What is so much fun that you have to run all the way? Everyone is like that. Primary school children are curious and wave at me.
We have breakfast at the same stall where Amit has eaten for years. Indian roadside stall. They cannot operate anywhere else, only here. The stall where we were being served has been there for over 30 years. there are quite a few people who come all the way to this stall to eat, just like in a restaurant.
After breakfast, I visited Shonin Sasai, who does not look 90 years old. Despite my sudden visit, he spoke to me politely. When I told him I was only staying for a day, he seemed disappointed and said that if he had more time he would have liked to show me around. His voice is very stern when he is scolding or giving instructions to the other abbots and priests, but when he laughs he has a very gentle smile on his face. It’s a wonderful smile. I wish I could smile like Sasai Shonin.
Afterwards, Shonin Sasai was unable to join us due to his schedule, but he recommended that we visit the temple and the excavated Buddhist site, and Mr Amit agreed to take us there. It should be noted that although Mr Amit acts as a secretary to Shonin Sasai, he is not a monk but a businessman. He currently runs a fashion shop and a pet shop in Nagpur. He used to work in the steel industry and travelled all over India.
Amit, such a businessman, take a holiday because we were coming. Although he may have had some work to do, Mr Amit and his personal driver took us on a full day tour of Buddhist sites.
We left Nagpur in a hurry as our flight to Bangalore was at 19:00. IN Nagpur everypeople really took good care of us.
We left Nagpur and reached Bangalore at 21:00. Bangalore was another amazingly beautiful city! It is also developing. Mr Amit said it was the most developed city in India and there is no doubt about that. My impression is that it is similar to Jakarta. India is really very different from city to city.
