妻から一つのリンクが送られてきた。

SwatchのESTA。新たなムーンスウォッチの購入申請だ。

Swatchには、こんな言葉がある。

“Time is what you make of it.”

「時間は、自分でつくるもの。」

たびたびブログでも書いているけれど、いつか「月や火星へ行くこと」を、人生の絶対的な夢にしている。
27歳だった2005年に宇宙旅行の会社銀河ヒッチハイカーズを立ち上げて潰したあの時から、宇宙へのヒッチハイクの旅路は、48歳になった2026年の今でも1ミリも色褪せていない。

とはいえ、実際的なことは何もできていない。ただそのかわり、机の上にはオメガスウォッチのムーンシリーズが歴代ずらっと並び、自分を鼓舞している。

本にも書いた。人にも話した。岡本太郎さんの言葉じゃないけれど、公言は公約だと思っている。言ったからには、引き受けるしかない。

でも、公言し続けるだけでなく、時間の配分を本当に変えているか。宇宙に向かって、実際に動いているか。

そこは、まだまだだと思う。

試験をすべて終え、コンプリートのボタンを押したとき、以前よりももっと宇宙へ行きたいと思うようになった。時間と好奇心と夢は、全部繋がっている。やっぱり絶対宇宙に行こう。

「お前は、何を目指して打席に立っているんだ？」という、強烈なアイデンティティへの問いかけだった。

Swatch has this phrase:

I’ve written about this on the blog before, but going to the moon or Mars someday is an absolute dream of mine. Back in 2005, when I was 27, I started a space travel company called Ginga Hitchhikers and watched it fail. That was more than twenty years ago. Not a single bit of that dream has faded — not in 2026, now that I’m 48.

In practical terms, though, I’ve done almost nothing. Instead, a row of Omega Swatch Moon series watches sits lined up across my desk, each one there to keep me honest.

I’ve written about it in a book. I’ve told people. It’s not quite Taro Okamoto’s words, but I believe that saying something out loud is the same as making a promise. Once you’ve said it, you have no choice but to own it.

Still — am I actually changing how I spend my time? Am I really moving toward space?

Not nearly enough, I think.

When I finished all the tests and pressed the Complete button, I found myself wanting to go to space even more than before. Time, curiosity, and dreams are all connected. I’m going to space. That’s settled.

It was a fierce question about identity — what exactly am I stepping up to the plate for?
