最近、BandcampがAI生成音楽を禁止する方針を出した、という話を見た。
それ自体は「なるほどな」と思いつつ、同時に、別の記事で見た考え方のほうが印象に残った。

ポイントはシンプルで、
「AIを使ったかどうか」ではなく、
「AIがあなたなしでもそれを作れたかどうか」が重要だ、というもの。

なるほど、たしかにその通りかもしれない。

もしAIが、ほんのわずかなコストで同じような作品を量産できるなら、
それはもともと代替可能なアウトプットだった、ということになる。

AIが創造性を奪うというより、
「平均的なアウトプット」をほぼ無料にしてしまっただけ、という見方だ。

だから価値は、
より強く「その人にしか作れないもの」に集まっていく。

この視点は、けっこう大事な気がする。

AIを使うかどうか、という議論は分かりやすい。
でもそれだけだと、本質から少しズレてしまう。

本当に問われているのは、
それが「誰でも作れるもの」なのか、
それとも「その人だから生まれるもの」なのか、ということ。

たとえば同じような音楽でも、
誰が作ったかによって意味が変わることがある。

その人の背景や、これまでの積み重ね、
どういう文脈でそれを出しているのか。

そういうものが重なって、
ようやく「代替できないもの」になる。

逆に言えば、そこが弱いものは、
AIによって一気に置き換えられていく可能性が高い。

少し厳しいけれど、すごく正直な基準だと思う。

この話は、音楽に限らない。

仕事でも、サービスでも、コンテンツでも、
「それ、AIでも同じことできるよね」と言われた瞬間に、価値は一気に薄くなる。

だからこそ、
何を作るかよりも、
「なぜそれを自分がやるのか」が、これまで以上に重要になる。

自分が、自分である理由。
それは、AIには導き出せない「非合理な情熱」や、
マニュアル化できない「個別の痛み」、
あるいは、どこかの曇り空の下で感じた、
あの無駄足にも似た納得感のようなものかもしれない。

AIが計算コストを払ってまで再現しようとしない、
そういう“ノイズ”の中にこそ、
その人にしか出せないものが残っている。

AIを魔法の道具として使うこと以上に、
AIという鏡で自分を照らして、
「AIにはどうしてもできない領域」を見つけていく。

これからは、そういう時代なのかもしれない。

平均は一気に無料になる。
だからこそ、その先が見える。

この変化、よく考えると、すごく面白い。

The World Where Average Becomes Free

Recently, I came across news that Bandcamp is moving toward banning AI-generated music.
That itself made sense to me, but what stayed with me more was a different idea I read elsewhere.

The point was simple:
what matters is not whether AI was used,
but whether AI could have created it without you.

That perspective felt convincing.

If AI can generate something similar at almost no cost,
then it was probably replaceable output to begin with.

It’s not that AI is taking away creativity.
It’s that it is making “average output” essentially free.

And because of that, value naturally shifts toward things that only a specific person can create.

This feels like an important shift.

It’s easy to focus on whether AI is used or not,
but that misses the deeper question.

What really matters is whether something could be made by anyone,
or whether it exists because of a particular person.

Even in something like music,
the meaning can change depending on who created it.

Their background, their experiences,
and the context in which they put something out into the world—
all of that adds up to something that cannot be easily replaced.

On the other hand, if those elements are weak,
AI will likely replace that work very quickly.

It’s a tough way to look at things,
but also a very honest one.

And this applies far beyond music.

In work, services, and content,
the moment something can be described as “AI could do the same thing,”
its value starts to fade.

That’s why, more than ever,
it’s not just about what you create,
but why you are the one creating it.

The reason you are you.

It might lie in things AI cannot derive—
irrational passion,
personal struggles that cannot be standardized,
or even the quiet sense of acceptance you feel after what seems like a wasted trip under a cloudy sky somewhere.

Things that AI would never consider worth the cost to reproduce.
Those kinds of “noise” may be where something truly unique remains.

So instead of only using AI as a tool,
it may be more important to use it as a mirror—
to understand and refine the parts that AI simply cannot replicate.

Maybe that’s the kind of era we’re entering.

Average becomes free.
And because of that, we start to see what lies beyond it.

The more I think about it, the more interesting this shift feels.
