宇宙の脳！？ SpaceXと、xAIが、合併を協議

とてつもないニュースが飛び込んできた。

イーロン・マスク率いる宇宙開発の「スペースX」と、AI開発の「xAI」が合併を検討しているという。

もしこれが実現すれば、スペースXのロケットと衛星通信（スターリンク）、xAIの人工知能、そしてSNSの「X」。これらが一つの巨大な生命体のように統合されることになる。

評価額は1兆ドル、日本円にして約153兆円。

桁が大きすぎて、もはや国家予算レベルの話だ。

ただ、金額以上にワクワクするのは、その中身だ。

報道によると、この合併によって「宇宙にAIデータセンターを打ち上げる」なんて構想も可能になるらしい。

地上でAIを動かすには膨大な電力と冷却装置が必要だけれど、宇宙なら太陽光は使い放題、排熱も宇宙空間へ。そしてスターリンクを使って、宇宙にある「脳」から直接、世界中に知能を降らせる。

まるでSF映画の設定資料集を読んでいる気分になるけれど、彼なら本当にやってしまいそうだ。

かつてマスクは、「火星に行けるようになるまでは上場しない」と言っていた。

けれど、今は2026年の上場を目指しているという。

それはつまり、彼の中で「火星」や「その先」への道筋が、かなり具体的なフェーズに入ったという合図なのかもしれない。

銀座の店で、明日の天気や在庫の心配をしている私と、

宇宙に人類のバックアップを作ろうとしている彼。

同じ時代に生きているのが不思議になるくらい、見ている尺度が違う。

でも、こういう「ホラ吹き」のような夢が、本当に現実になっていく様をリアルタイムで見られるのは、現代に生きる特権だとも思う。

もし将来、宇宙サーバー経由のAIが眼鏡のデザインを提案してくる日が来たら。

「へえ、宇宙のセンスはこうなのか」と、素直に面白がれる自分でありたい。

SpaceX and xAI in Talks Over a Possible Merger

An astonishing piece of news has just come in.

It’s being reported that SpaceX, the space exploration company led by Elon Musk, and xAI, his AI venture, are discussing a potential merger.

If this actually happens, SpaceX’s rockets and satellite internet system (Starlink), xAI’s artificial intelligence, and the social media platform X would all be integrated—like a single, gigantic living organism.

The valuation being discussed is around one trillion dollars, roughly 153 trillion yen.

The numbers are so large they almost stop feeling real—on the scale of a national budget.

But what excites me even more than the money is what’s inside the idea.

According to reports, this merger could make it possible to do something straight out of science fiction:
launching AI data centers into space.

Running AI on Earth requires enormous amounts of electricity and cooling systems.
In space, there’s unlimited sunlight and heat can be radiated directly into the vacuum.
And with Starlink, intelligence generated by a “brain in orbit” could be delivered directly to people all over the world.

It feels like reading background notes from a sci-fi movie.
And yet—if anyone could actually pull this off, it would be him.

Musk once said he wouldn’t take SpaceX public until humans could go to Mars.

Now, however, he’s reportedly aiming for an IPO in 2026.

That might mean that, in his mind, the roadmap to Mars—and beyond—has entered a much more concrete phase.

There I am, standing in my Ginza shop, worrying about tomorrow’s weather and inventory.

And there he is, trying to build a backup of humanity in space.

We’re living in the same era, yet the scale at which we’re looking at the world couldn’t be more different.

Still, being able to witness these “tall tales” turn into reality in real time feels like a privilege of living in this age.

And if one day an AI routed through a space-based server starts proposing designs for eyeglass frames…

I hope I can simply smile and think,
“So this is what taste looks like—from space.”
