今朝6時、ミュンヘンに到着。

そのまま空港から、
まずは opti 2026 の会場へ向かった。

ドイツの展示会は今回が初めて。
同じ眼鏡の展示会でも、国が違うと空気が少し違う。

ブースの作り方、
距離感、
話し方のテンポ。

どれが良い悪いではなくて、
「ああ、ここはドイツなんだな」と
自然に腑に落ちる感じがあった。

一通り会場を見て、
そのあとはホテルへチェックイン。

少し荷物を置いてから、
ミュンヘンの街を歩いてみた。

ミュンヘンは、今回が初めて。

冬のヨーロッパは、
やっぱり静かで、落ち着いている。

観光地であっても、
音がどこか吸い込まれているようで、
街全体が静かに呼吸している感じがする。

……そう思っていた。

ところが、
マリエンプラッツ（市庁舎前広場）に着いた瞬間、
そのイメージは一気に裏切られた。

広場は、人で埋め尽くされていた。

プラカード。
旗。
声。

一瞬、
「今日は何かのお祭りか？」
そう思ったほどの熱気。

でも、
それは祝祭ではなかった。

民主主義を守るための、大規模な集会だった。

ドイツではいま、
極右勢力の台頭や、社会の分断に対する強い危機感があり、
市民が自分たちの意思を示すために、
こうして街に集まっているという。

「多様性を認めよう」
「分断ではなく、共生を」

そんなメッセージが、
あちこちのプラカードに書かれていた。

印象的だったのは、
集まっている人たちの幅の広さだ。

学生もいれば、
シニア世代もいる。

声を荒げるでもなく、
暴力的でもなく、
ただ静かに、でもはっきりと
「自分はこう思う」と示している。

さっきまで
「冬のミュンヘンは静かだな」
と思っていた街が、
同じ街とは思えないほどの熱を帯びている。

その落差に、正直驚いた。

展示会で感じた、
国ごとの空気の違い。

街を歩いて感じた、
時間の流れの違い。

そして、
この広場で感じた、
市民の温度。

海外に来る理由は、
新しい商品を見ることだけじゃない。

こういう、
その国の「いま」を、
肌で感じることなんだと思う。

今日は、まだ始まったばかり。

opti 2026 も、
ミュンヘンの街も、
もう少し、ゆっくり見ていこうと思う。

冬のヨーロッパは、
静かで、
でも、思っている以上に熱を秘めている。

——そんな一日目だった。

opti 2026 and the Quiet Heat of Winter Munich

I arrived in Munich at 6 a.m.

Straight from the airport, I headed to the venue for opti 2026.
This was my first time attending a trade fair in Germany.
Even though it’s the same eyewear industry, the atmosphere feels different when the country changes.

The way the booths are designed.
The sense of distance between people.
The rhythm of conversation.

None of it is better or worse—just different.
And at some point, it quietly clicked:
Right, this is Germany.

After walking the exhibition floor, I checked into my hotel.
I left my luggage there and went out to explore the city.

It was my first time in Munich.

Winter in Europe feels calm.
Even in busy areas, sound seems muted, as if the city is breathing slowly and deeply.

…Or so I thought.

The moment I arrived at Marienplatz, that image was completely overturned.

The square was filled with people.

Placards.
Flags.
Voices.

For a second, I wondered if there was a festival happening.

But it wasn’t a celebration.
It was a large public gathering to defend democracy.

In Germany right now, there is growing concern about the rise of far-right movements and social division.
People are coming together to express their views openly.

“Respect diversity.”
“Choose coexistence over division.”

Those messages appeared again and again on handmade signs.

What struck me most was the range of people.
Students, families, older generations—everyone was there.

No shouting.
No aggression.
Just calm, steady voices clearly saying, This is what I believe.

Only moments earlier, I had thought of Munich as a quiet winter city.
Now it felt filled with energy.

The contrast was surprising.

At the exhibition, I sensed cultural differences between countries.
Walking through the city, I felt a different pace of time.
And here in the square, I felt the temperature of the people themselves.

Traveling abroad isn’t only about discovering new products.
It’s also about feeling the present moment of a place—directly, with your own senses.

This is only the beginning.

I’ll continue to take my time with opti 2026,
and with Munich itself.

Winter in Europe may be quiet—
but it holds far more heat beneath the surface than you might expect.

That was day one.
