アメリカの会社が作る、折りたたみ式の住宅。
広さは約37平米。工場で作り、トラックで運び、現地で「パカッ」と開く。
以前、Elon Musk がSpaceXの工場敷地に置いて、そこで寝泊まりしていると話題になったあの家。その会社が、上場するという。

会社の名前は、BOXABL（ボクサブル）。

アメリカではいま、建材も人件費も高騰しすぎて、
家を建てるコストが、とんでもないことになっている。

そんな時代に彼らが出してきた答えが、
従来のプレハブとは一線を画す、「折りたたみ式の家」だ。

工場で精密に作られた、高品質な住宅を、パタンと折りたたむ。
それをトラックで現地まで運び、
到着したら、ダンボール箱を開くみたいに展開する。

すると、
キッチンも、バスルームも、寝室もそろった家が、あっという間に現れる。

主力商品の「The Casita」は、約37平米。
アメリカ基準では「極小」かもしれないけれど、
日本の感覚なら、一人暮らしには十分すぎるワンルームだ。

価格は、5万ドル。
日本円で、だいたい750万円。

従来の工法と比べると、
桁違いに安くて、何より速い。

このニュースを見て、
真っ先に頭に浮かんだのは、
『ドラゴンボール』に出てくる「ホイポイカプセル」だった。

小さなカプセルをポンと投げると、
ボンッと煙が出て、家や車が現れるあれ。

子どもの頃、あれが欲しくてたまらなかった。

さすがに「投げる」ところまでは来ていないけれど、
「折りたたんで運べる家」までは、もう来ている。

ホイポイカプセルまで、あと何年だろう。

公式サイトを見ると、
「ORDER NOW（今すぐ注文）」というボタンがある。

家を、
Amazonでスニーカーを買うみたいな感覚で、
カートに入れる時代。

「BABY BOX」という、さらに小さなRV規格のモデルもあり、
将来的には、ボックスを積み重ねて
タウンハウスやアパートを作る構想もあるらしい。

彼らのビジョンは、
「Build The World（世界をつくる）」。

銀座のこの店も、
いつか建て替える日が来たら、
トラックで運ばれてきた箱をパカッと開いて、
「はい、新装開店」なんてことになるんだろうか。

重厚な建築もいいけれど、
軽やかに運ばれ、展開される住まい。

「不動産」が、
少しずつ「可動産」に近づいていく感覚があって、
なんだかワクワクする。

750万円で、新品の家。
土地さえあれば、の話だけれど、夢はある。

家のために働く時代から、
家を持ち運ぶ時代へ。

定住から移動へ。
所有から使用へ。

これは、ただの住宅革命じゃなくて、
生き方そのものの話かもしれない。

ホイポイカプセルまで、あと一歩。
その一歩は、案外、大きな一歩なのかもしれない。

未来は、
思っているより小さな箱に入って、
やってくるのかもしれない。

An American company is building foldable houses.
About 37 square meters in size, they’re manufactured in a factory, transported by truck, and then unfolded on site with a simple “pop.”

It’s the same house that Elon Musk reportedly placed on SpaceX property and lived in for a time.
That company is now preparing to go public.

The company is called BOXABL.

In the United States, the cost of building a home has become extreme.
Material prices and labor costs have risen so much that constructing a house now feels almost out of reach.

BOXABL’s answer to this reality is a type of home that goes far beyond traditional prefab housing:
a house that folds.

A high-quality home is precisely built in a factory, folded flat, and shipped by truck.
Once it arrives, it’s unfolded—almost like opening a cardboard box.

And suddenly, there it is:
a complete home with a kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom.

Their main product, The Casita, is about 37 square meters.
By American standards it might be considered “tiny,”
but from a Japanese perspective, it’s more than enough space for comfortable single living.

The price is $50,000—roughly 7.5 million yen.

Compared to conventional construction, it’s dramatically cheaper, and above all, fast.

When I saw this news, the first thing that came to mind was the Hoi-Poi Capsule from Dragon Ball.

You toss a small capsule, it explodes in a puff of smoke,
and suddenly a house or a car appears.

As a kid, I desperately wanted one.

We’re not quite at the point where you can throw a capsule and watch a house appear,
but we’ve already reached “a house you can fold and transport.”

How many years until the Hoi-Poi Capsule becomes real?

On BOXABL’s website, there’s a button that says:
“ORDER NOW.”

Buying a house the same way you’d buy sneakers on Amazon.

They also offer a smaller RV-standard model called Baby Box,
and they’re planning future designs where multiple boxes can be stacked to create townhouses or apartment buildings.

Their vision is simple:
“Build the World.”

I can’t help but wonder—
when the time comes to rebuild my shop in Ginza,
will a truck pull up, a box unfold, and suddenly it’s “Grand Reopening”?

There’s something appealing about heavy, permanent architecture.
But there’s also something exciting about homes that are light, mobile, and deployable.

It feels like real estate is slowly becoming something closer to movable property.
And that’s kind of thrilling.

A brand-new house for 7.5 million yen.
You still need the land, of course—but it’s an idea with real promise.

From working for a house
to carrying your house with you.

From settling down to moving freely.
From ownership to use.

This may not just be a housing revolution,
but a shift in how we live.
