ゲオホールディングス社長のインタビューを読んで、思わず膝を打った。

「楽しさの寄せ鍋であればいい」

上場企業のトップの言葉としては、
あまりに素朴で、戦略的でもなく、洗練もされていない。

でも、これほど本質を突いた言葉もない。

「楽しさの寄せ鍋であればいい」

なんと、いい言葉だろう。

店があろうがなかろうが、
チェーンであろうが、個人であろうが関係ない。

最終的に、
関わる人の暮らしが、ほんの少しでも楽しくなるなら、それでいい。

銀座の小さなこの店も、そうありたいと思った。

並んでいるのは眼鏡だけれど、
ここにあるのは「視力」だけではない。

ファッションとしての楽しさ。
自分を少し変える面白さ。
あるいは、どうでもいい話をする時間。

いろいろな具材がごちゃ混ぜになって、
結果として、

「ここに来ると、なんかいいな」

そう思ってもらえる場所。

統一感なんて、なくていい。
戦略的じゃなくていい。
きれいに整理されていなくていい。

大切なのは、温かいこと。
人が集まれること。
そして、何かが生まれる余地があること。

17年間、眼鏡一筋でやってきた。
でも、これからは少し違ってもいい気がしている。

眼鏡も売る。
思い出も預かる。
壊れたものも引き取る。
新しい価値も、ゆっくり作る。

雑多で、温かくて、楽しい。
眼鏡という具材を中心に、
いろんなものを、静かに煮込んでいく。

きっと、
時間をかけた分だけ、いい味が出る。

そんな商売を、これからも続けていきたい。

“If It’s a Hot Pot of Enjoyment, That’s Enough”

I came across an interview with the CEO of GEO Holdings the other day, and it made me stop.

“If it’s a hot pot of enjoyment, that’s enough.”

Coming from the head of a publicly listed company,
the phrase feels almost too simple.
Not strategic.
Not polished.

And yet, it gets straight to the point.

“If it’s a hot pot of enjoyment, that’s enough.”

What a good way to put it.

Whether there is a physical store or not.
Whether it’s a chain or a small independent shop.
None of that really matters.

If, in the end, people’s lives become even a little more enjoyable,
that’s enough.

I realized that this is exactly what I want this small shop in Ginza to be.

What we have on display are eyeglasses.
But what we offer isn’t just vision.

There’s the enjoyment of fashion.
The small thrill of changing how you see yourself.
Sometimes, it’s simply the time spent talking about nothing in particular.

Different ingredients mixed together,
until people walk away thinking,

“Somehow, that place feels nice.”

There doesn’t need to be perfect consistency.
It doesn’t have to be strategic.
It doesn’t have to be neatly organized.

What matters is warmth.
That people can gather.
That there’s room for something to happen.

For seventeen years, I’ve worked with eyeglasses alone.
But maybe it’s okay if things start to look a little different from here on.

We sell glasses.
We hold onto memories.
We take in things that are broken.
And slowly, we create new value.

A hot pot is fine.

Messy, warm, and enjoyable.
With eyeglasses as the main ingredient,
we quietly let many things simmer together.

Given enough time,
I’m sure it will turn into something with a good, deep flavor.

That’s the kind of business I’d like to keep doing.
