明日は妻の誕生日。先日公演をさせていただいた汐留のパナソニック汐留美術館を巡って、ランチ後に立ち寄った広告ミュージアム東京（ADMT）で、電通4代目社長・吉田秀雄氏のパネルに出会った。

「想像と思想がなければ事業は成立しない。不可能を可能とするところに新しい生活がある。我々の想像に絶するものが現れてくるに違いない。冒険のないところに進歩はない。常識以上の非常識こそ勝利の道。」

ぐっときた。

特に「不可能を可能とするところに新しい生活がある」と「冒険のないところに進歩はない。常識以上の非常識こそ勝利の道」という部分。

この言葉を自分なりに分解してみた。

「想像と思想がなければ事業は成立しない」

メガネ屋の日常─仕入れ・接客・店舗設計にも、必ずビジョンを込める必要がある。ただ視力を矯正するだけじゃない、お客様の人生をより豊かにしたいという想いが大切だ。そして、今後自分があらたな事業をやるとしても、必ず想像と思想が必要だ。

「不可能を可能とするところに新しい生活がある」

AI設計レンズなんて、半年前まで夢物語だった。でも今は導入を本気で検討している。自分のの2049年火星行きも、今は「不可能」に見えるかもしれないが、きっと可能になる。

「我々の想像に絶するものが現れてくるに違いない」

昨日書いたレールガンの話、その前のダイソン球の話。技術の進歩はいつも想定外を連れてくる。エベレストに登った時だって、昔の人には想像もできなかった技術に支えられていた。

「冒険のないところに進歩はない」

これは本当にそうだ。まずは自分の宇宙事業だ。そして、現在のメガネ屋も同じ。安全な商品ばかり扱っていたら進歩がない。新しいブランドを発掘する旅に出て、失敗を恐れずに仕入れる。それでこそ、お客様に新たなものを感じていただける。

「常識以上の非常識こそ勝利の道」

宇宙事業、これからのAI、VR、AR。やっぱり数をうっていかないとだめ。佐藤航陽さんが、成功に必要なものは、最適なタイミングで最適な場所にいるってだけとおっしゃっていたけれど、まさにそうなんだろう。そのためにとにかく数、数、数。そして常識以上の非常識こそ勝利への道。

とにかく最近自分は手数が足りてないそして非常識も足りてない。「非常識こそ勝利の道」を家庭にもビジネスにも少しずつ注入したい。

冒険なくして進歩なし、非常識なくして勝利なし。

吉田秀雄さんの言葉を胸に、明日もメガネとアイデアを磨き続けたい。

My Wife’s Birthday and Yoshida Hideo’s Words

Tomorrow is my wife’s birthday. After visiting the Panasonic Shiodome Museum of Art in Shiodome where I recently gave a lecture, we stopped by the Advertising Museum Tokyo (ADMT) for lunch, where I encountered a panel featuring Yoshida Hideo, the 4th president of Dentsu.

“Business cannot exist without imagination and philosophy. Where the impossible becomes possible, new life emerges. Things beyond our imagination will surely appear. There is no progress without adventure. Unconventional thinking beyond common sense is the path to victory.”

I was deeply moved.

Particularly by “Where the impossible becomes possible, new life emerges” and “There is no progress without adventure. Unconventional thinking beyond common sense is the path to victory.”

I tried to break down these words in my own way:

“Business cannot exist without imagination and philosophy”
Even in the daily routine of an eyeglass shop – purchasing, customer service, store design – we must always embed our vision. It’s not just about correcting vision; what matters is the desire to enrich our customers’ lives. And if I were to start any new business in the future, imagination and philosophy would be essential.

“Where the impossible becomes possible, new life emerges”
AI-designed lenses were just a pipe dream six months ago. But now I’m seriously considering implementing them. My 2049 Mars mission might seem “impossible” now, but it will surely become possible.

“Things beyond our imagination will surely appear”
Yesterday’s railgun story, and the Dyson sphere story before that. Technological progress always brings the unexpected. Even when I climbed Everest, I was supported by technologies that people in the past couldn’t have imagined.

“There is no progress without adventure”
This is absolutely true. First, there’s my space business. And it’s the same with my current eyeglass shop. If I only deal with safe products, there’s no progress. I need to venture out to discover new brands and make purchases without fearing failure. Only then can I offer customers something new.

“Unconventional thinking beyond common sense is the path to victory”
Space business, future AI, VR, AR. I really need to increase the number of attempts. Sato Koyo said that what’s needed for success is simply “being in the right place at the right time,” and that’s probably exactly right. For that, it’s all about numbers, numbers, numbers. And unconventional thinking beyond common sense is the path to victory.

Lately, I simply don’t have enough attempts, and I’m lacking in unconventional thinking too. I want to gradually inject this “unconventional thinking is the path to victory” into both my family life and business.

No progress without adventure, no victory without unconventional thinking.

I want to continue polishing both eyeglasses and ideas tomorrow, keeping Yoshida Hideo’s words close to my heart.

On my wife’s birthday, I’m grateful to have encountered such wonderful words.
