今日、久しぶりに妻と二人で、あるお店に足を運んだ。そこは、自分たち夫婦が出会った頃に訪れた、思い出深い場所。今回は、大変お世話になっている、人生の先輩方もご一緒させていただいた。

美味しい食事とお酒を囲みながら、先輩方の話に耳を傾ける時間は、本当に豊かで、素晴らしいものだった。経験に裏打ちされた言葉の一つひとつに、深い知恵と、人生に対する温かい眼差しが感じられる。若い頃に、もし同じ話を聞いていても、正直なところ、その本当の意味を理解できていなかったように思う。

しかし、自分も50歳という年齢が近づいてきた今、先輩方の言葉が、以前とは比べ物にならないほど深く、すっと心に沁み込んでくるのを感じる。「ああ、そういうことだったのか」「この感覚、今なら分かる気がする」と、腑に落ちる瞬間が何度もあった。年齢を重ね、自分自身も様々な経験をしてきたからこそ、言葉の重みや背景にある想いを、より深く受け止められるようになったのかもしれない。まさに「身に染みてわかる」という感覚。

この経験を通して、改めて強く思ったことがある。それは、これからもずっと、学び続ける姿勢を持ち続けたいということだ。

もちろん、今日ご一緒したような、人生経験豊富な大先輩方から学ばせていただくことは、計り知れないほど多い。その知恵や教訓は、これからの人生の道標となるのは間違いないだろう。

ただ同時に、これからは、自分よりも若い世代の人たちからも、積極的に学びたいと感じている。彼らの新しい視点、柔軟な発想、そして未来に向かうエネルギー。それらは、凝り固まりがちな自分の思考を解きほぐし、新しい刺激を与えてくれるはず。

先輩方から受け継ぐべき普遍的な知恵と、若い世代が持つ新しい時代の感覚。その両方に心を開き、謙虚に耳を傾け、吸収していくこと。それが、これからの自分をさらに高め、より豊かにしていく道なのではなのかもしれない。

思い出の場所で過ごした、温かく、示唆に富んだ時間。素晴らしい先輩方への感謝と共に、いくつになっても学び続け、成長していきたいという思いを、改めて強くした素晴らしい一日だった。

Lessons from Seniors, Inspiration from Youth: Reflections at a Nostalgic Spot

Today, my wife and I visited a certain restaurant we hadn’t been to in a long time. It’s a memorable place we used to visit back when we first met. This time, we had the pleasure of being joined by some respected seniors (senpai) in life, to whom we are greatly indebted.

Gathered around delicious food and drinks, the time spent listening to our seniors’ stories was truly enriching and wonderful. In each of their words, backed by experience, one could feel deep wisdom and a warm perspective on life. If I had heard the same stories when I was younger, I honestly don’t think I would have understood their true meaning.

However, now that I’m approaching the age of 50 myself, I feel their words permeating my heart much more deeply than ever before, sinking right in. There were many moments where things just clicked, thinking, “Ah, so that’s what it meant,” or “I think I understand that feeling now.” Perhaps it’s because I’ve gotten older and accumulated various experiences myself that I can now grasp the weight of their words and the feelings behind them more profoundly. It’s truly the feeling of ‘understanding through experience’ – knowing it in your bones (mi ni shimite wakaru).

Through this experience, something I felt strongly anew is that I want to maintain an attitude of continuous learning, always.

Of course, there is immeasurably much to learn from highly experienced seniors (daisenpai – great seniors/veterans) like those I was with today. Their wisdom and lessons will undoubtedly serve as guideposts for my life ahead.

But at the same time, I now feel I want to actively learn from the younger generation as well. Their fresh perspectives, flexible thinking, and energy directed towards the future – these things should loosen up my own thinking, which tends to become rigid, and provide new stimulation.

The universal wisdom to be inherited from our seniors, and the sensibility of the new era possessed by the younger generation. Opening my heart to both, listening humbly, and absorbing what they offer – perhaps that is the path to further elevating myself and enriching my life from now on.

The warm and insightful time spent in a place full of memories. Along with gratitude towards my wonderful seniors, it was a wonderful day that reaffirmed my strong desire to keep learning and growing, no matter how old I get.
