日々忙しくメガネ屋を切り盛りしていると、ふと「この物価の違いって、何なんだろう？」と立ち止まる瞬間がある。先日、オーストラリアに足を運んだら、800円じゃコーヒー一杯がやっと。食事なんて夢のまた夢だ。かたや銀座、うちの店のあるこの街では、850円でラーメンに丼までついたランチが食べられる。銀座でだ。時代の流れって、本当に不思議だ。

この物価の差を、ただ「高い」「安い」と嘆くだけじゃ、何も変わらない。それをそのままにしておくのはもったいない。世界を見渡せば、この状況はピンチじゃなくて、チャンスなんだって気づく。うちのメガネ屋にも、最近、海外からのお客様がどんどんやってくる。ありがたいことに、メガネをぽんぽん買ってくれる。言葉の壁も、文化の違いも、なんだかんだで笑顔で乗り越えられる瞬間があって、それがたまらなく面白い。

自分が本当にやりたいことって何だろう？ただお店を営業するだけじゃなく、この世界の流れに乗って、もっと新しいことに挑戦してみたい。そんなことを考える。忙しさにかまけて「時間がない」「今じゃない」と後回しにしてきたアイデアが、頭の片隅でうずうずしてる。今、この物価の違いや人の流れを目の当たりにして、ようやくその一歩を踏み出せそうな気がしてきた。小さな一歩でもいい。新しいメガネのデザインを試してみるとか、海外のお客様向けのサービスを考えてみるとか。動き出せば、きっと何かが見えてくる。

シンプルに、世界が動いてるこの瞬間を楽しみながら、目の前のチャンスをつかむ。新しい出会いに心を開けば、自然と人と人がつながっていく。海外のお客様がメガネを選ぶときのキラキラした目を見ると、こっちまでワクワクしてくる。最近、そんな瞬間が増えてきたのが嬉しい。大切なのは、自分が今、どんなことに情熱を感じてるのかをちゃんと声に出すこと。そして、同じように、相手の想いにも耳を傾けることだ。

Running my eyewear shop day in and day out, there are moments when I pause and wonder, “What’s with these price differences?” Just the other day, I was in Australia, where 800 yen barely got me a cup of coffee. A meal? Forget about it. Meanwhile, here in Ginza, where my shop is, you can get a ramen and a rice bowl lunch for 850 yen. In Ginza, of all places. The way times change is truly strange.

Just complaining about things being “expensive” or “cheap” doesn’t change a thing. Letting that frustration simmer is such a waste. Look at the world, and you realize this isn’t a crisis—it’s an opportunity. Lately, my shop’s been seeing more and more overseas customers. They come in, and to my delight, they’re snapping up glasses left and right. Language barriers, cultural differences—they all melt away with a smile, and those moments are just so much fun.

What do I really want to do? Not just keep the shop running, but ride this global wave and try something new. That’s what’s been on my mind. I’ve been putting off ideas, blaming “no time” or “not now” amid the daily grind, but they’re itching at the back of my head. When I see the sparkle in a foreign customer’s eyes as they pick out glasses, it gets me excited too. Those moments have been happening more often, and I’m grateful for it. Instead of grumbling about “losses,” diving into unforeseen opportunities is way more thrilling.
