吉村弘さん- 静寂を紡ぐ音の建築家

ニューヨークタイムズで、神レベルの作曲家、吉村弘さんという存在。そういった記事を読んだ。静かで、やさしく、どこか懐かしい。吉村弘（Hiroshi Yoshimura）さんは、まさにそんな音を生み出していた日本の作曲家。

吉村弘さんは、1980年代から1990年代にかけて、**「環境音楽（kankyō ongaku）」**と呼ばれるジャンルの作品を数多く手がけられた方。アマゾンミュージックなどきけるようになり今再び注目されているという。空間や自然、建築物、あるいは時間そのものと調和するような音楽。メロディは控えめで、ミニマル。けれど、耳を澄ませて聴くと、どこまでも深く、どこまでも美しい。

吉村弘さんは 1940年、横浜生まれ。早稲田大学建築学科を卒業後、音と空間の関係性に強い関心を持ち、音楽制作に傾倒。美術館や建築空間、企業施設のための「聴かれるための音ではなく、環境と溶け合う音楽」を数多く制作されたという。また、NHK教育テレビの音楽や、子ども向け番組のサウンドトラックも手がけるなど、活動は幅広く、独自の世界を築いていらっしゃたよう。

代表作には： • **『Music for Nine Post Cards』（1982）**ミニマルなピアノとシンセサイザーの織りなす静寂。 • **『Green』（1986）**水の音、風の音、自然と共鳴するような心地よさ。

などがあり、どれも今、高く評価されている。2003年に逝去されましたが、生前は日本国外ではほとんど知られていない存在だった。

耳を澄ませるという贅沢。何気ない日常の風景や、見落としていた時間の流れにそっと光を当てるような芸術。ふと立ち止まり、静かに耳を澄ませる。久しぶりに、そんな贅沢なひとときを、吉村弘さんの音楽で感じさせていただいた。

I read an article in The New York Times about Hiroshi Yoshimura, a composer described as having god-level talent. Quiet, gentle, and somehow nostalgic. Hiroshi Yoshimura (吉村弘) was a Japanese composer who created exactly such sounds.

During the 1980s and 1990s, Mr. Yoshimura produced numerous works in a genre called “environmental music” (kankyō ongaku). It’s said that he’s gaining renewed attention now that his music is available on Amazon Music and other platforms. His music harmonizes with spaces, nature, architecture, or time itself. The melodies are restrained and minimal. Yet, when you listen carefully, they reveal endless depth and beauty.

Born in Yokohama in 1940, Hiroshi Yoshimura graduated from Waseda University’s Department of Architecture and became deeply interested in the relationship between sound and space, devoting himself to music production. He reportedly created numerous pieces that were “not sounds meant to be listened to, but music that blends with the environment” for museums, architectural spaces, and corporate facilities. His activities were diverse, including creating music for NHK Educational TV and soundtracks for children’s programs, and he appears to have established a unique artistic world.

His representative works include: • “Music for Nine Post Cards” (1982) – The serenity of minimal piano and synthesizer interweaving. • “Green” (1986) – The comfortable resonance of water sounds, wind sounds, as if in harmony with nature.

All of these are highly appreciated today. Although he passed away in 2003, he was barely known outside of Japan during his lifetime.

The luxury of listening attentively. Art that gently illuminates ordinary landscapes and the flow of time we might otherwise overlook. Pausing for a moment and quietly listening. Through Mr. Yoshimura’s music, I was able to experience such a luxurious moment after a long time.
