I am currently doing a lot of research to introduce three languages to my company’s website, but again the means and the end are not the same. I find that making the homepage multilingual has become an end in itself.
Multilingualism is just a means to strengthen my approach to overseas markets and to facilitate communication with customers around the world. The aim is to expand business outside Japan and improve customer satisfaction.
However, the mere fact of multilingualism makes them feel satisfied, as if they have achieved something.
A common analogy is that when people go to a hardware store to buy a drill, what they really want is a hole, not a drill. This concept is very simple and important, but we often become aware of the means to an end without realising it.
This applies not only to work, but also to everyday life. In my case, I swim in the morning on Mondays and Fridays, but for me swimming is just a means to an end. The end is to stay fit and healthy. With work and everyday life, it is easy to lose sight of the means and the end if you are not careful. I have to be careful.
