インド7日目。デーリー空港、出国手続き激混み。
朝イチでティルバナンタプーラムからデーリーへ。オーバーブッキングだったのか、自分だけシートが変更。ビジネスクラスに。自分はいつもエコノミー。以前ジャカルタで仕事している際に、羽田ジャカルタ便で無料アップグレードでビジネスになったことがあるぐらいで、本当に久しぶり。なんかドキドキ。同じ金額なのに、食事も出てくるし、コーヒーもいただけるし、とってもありがたい。こんな最高なビジネス。ただ人間は慣れる生き物。この最高さも毎回ビジネスクラスを使用している方には何のありがたみもなく、さらに毎回プライベートジェットの方はビジネスなど狭くて乗れない、そんな気持ちになってしまうのかな。
夕方、デーリーにつき、夜の帰国便まで時間があったので、空港近くのモールとThe Roseate というデザイナーズホテルの中のIAH Barに。モールもホテルも空港からわずか8kmほどの距離。IAH Barはとても雰囲気が良くお客様も一人もいない。思わず2時間ほど長居してしまった。空港へは2時間前に余裕を持って行ったのだけれど、甘かった。チェックインも入国も荷物チェックも激混み。現地の方が、国内線は何時間前にいったら良い？と聞いていたときに2時間前と言っていたのがわかった。国際線ならば3時間前ではくてはダメだったのだ。結局2時間前に空港には行ったけれど、ファイナルコールギリギリで飛行機に乗れた。危なく飛行機を乗り過ごすことだった。自分は今まで散々飛行機乗り過ごしてきているから、最近は余裕をもって、空港は3時間前に行っていたのだけれど、やっぱり空港は3時間前に行こう。

First thing in the morning from Thiruvananthapuram to Delhi. Perhaps because I was overbooked, to my surprise I was upgraded to business class for free. I always fly economy. When I was working in Jakarta, I got a free upgrade to business class on a flight from Haneda to Jakarta, but I have only flown business class a few times. I’m very grateful that I can have meals and coffee for the same price. I wonder if people who fly business class all the time lose their appreciation when they fly business class all the time, or if people who fly private jets all the time feel that business class is too small for them.
I arrived in Delhi in the evening and had some time before my flight home in the evening, so I went to the IAH bar in The Roseate, a designer hotel. Both the mall and the hotel are only 8km from the airport; the IAH bar has a very nice atmosphere and no customers. I spent two hours there. I arrived at the airport with two hours to spare, but I was naive. Check-in, immigration and baggage claim were very busy. When I asked locals how many hours in advance I should go for domestic flights, they all said two hours. I thought people in India were more punctual than I expected, but now I know what they mean by two hours. I arrived at the airport two hours before my flight and this time I was able to board the plane just before the last call to close the doors for take-off. I almost missed the plane.
Having missed so many flights in the past, I have recently started going to the airport three hours in advance, but I thought again that in future I should still go to the airport three hours in advance.
