I thought I was the type of person who could, in a relatively short time, get on with people from all over the world, regardless of race. However, this was clearly a mistake and I simply got on well with people who had the same goals and aspirations.
For example, I recently took part in a 515km race in Hawaii called the Ultraman, which is the longest version of a triathlon. The number of people who came together to participate in this race was about 25 in the world in 2023. Because there are only 25 people in the world and what they are doing is unusual, they get to know each other quickly.
These people are trying to climb the highest peak in Antarctica. These people are also very unusual, so you can get to know them quickly and get to know them better.
On the other hand, if you do not have such a goal, you will only get to know them superficially in a few days. Even if the other person is Japanese. I was reminded that having a common purpose or goal is an important element in getting to know people.
