人種問わず仲良くなれると思っていたけれど間違いだった

自分は、世界の人々と人種問わず、比較的短期間で仲良くなれるほうだと思っていた。ただ、それはどうも自分の勘違いで、同じ目的を持った人、同じ目標の人と単に仲良くなれていたというだけだった。

例えば先日ハワイで参加したトライアスロンの最長版、総距離515kmのウルトラマン。そこに参加するために集まってきた人は、2023年で全世界で25人ほど。そもそも、25人しかいないし、やっていることも稀なのですぐに仲良くなれる。

南極の最高峰に登ろうとしている人。こういった人も稀なのですぐ仲良くなれて、一気に距離が縮まる。

逆にそういった目的がないと、数日あったぐらいでは、やっぱり表面的にしか仲良くなれない。同じ日本人であろうと。なので、共通の目的や目標というものが、いかに大切だったのだと改めて気づいた。

I thought I was the type of person who could, in a relatively short time, get on with people from all over the world, regardless of race. However, this was clearly a mistake and I simply got on well with people who had the same goals and aspirations.

For example, I recently took part in a 515km race in Hawaii called the Ultraman, which is the longest version of a triathlon. Because there are only 25 people in the world and what they are doing is unusual, they get to know each other quickly.

These people are trying to climb the highest peak in Antarctica. These people are also very unusual, so you can get to know them quickly and get to know them better.

On the other hand, if you do not have such a goal, you will only get to know them superficially in a few days. Even if the other person is Japanese. I was reminded that having a common purpose or goal is an important element in getting to know people.
