不気味の谷のメガネ

自分は東京の新宿と銀座で15年ほどメガネ屋を営ませてもらっている。

お客様にメガネをお選びさせていただいている中で一番多いご要望は「できるだけ自然に」。できるだけ自然なメガネといっても、何も地味なメガネというわけでなく、どんなに派手なメガネでも、そのお客様にあえば驚くほど自然になる。つまいrお一人お一人の個性や雰囲気に合うメガネが自然なメガネだ。

そんな中、最近、常連様より今後「不気味の谷」のような違和感のあるメガネをくださいというご要望をいただいた。

不気味の谷。簡単にいうと、人間を模倣したヒューマロイドロボットを不気味に感じる現象。ロボットが人間に似てくると、人間は最初は好意的な反応を示すものの、ある程度に近づいたところで急に不快感や恐怖感を抱くようになる。そのポイントが「不気味の谷」なお谷なので、恐怖感の谷を越えて人間と見分けがつかなくなると、再び好意的な反応を示すようになる。

現在TikTokで、不気味の谷アンドロイド風メークが流行っているというけれど、メガネでそこを表現するというのは思いつかなかったけれど、それはそれでなかなか面白い！「不気味の谷メガネ」ちょっと探してみよう！

I have been running an optical shop in Shinjuku and Ginza, Tokyo, for 15 years.

The most common request I get from customers when choosing glasses for them is “as natural as possible”. When I say “as natural as possible” glasses that are surprisingly natural to the customer, no matter how fancy they are. Natural glasses are those that suit the individual personality and mood of each customer.

Recently, one of our regular customers asked for a pair of 「 Uncanny Valley glasses」.

The uncanny valley. Simply put, it is a phenomenon where humanoid robots that imitate humans feel uncanny. When a robot begins to resemble a human, people initially respond positively, but at a certain point they suddenly become uncomfortable or fearful. That point is the uncanny valley, so when they cross the valley of fear and become indistinguishable from humans, they will react favourably again.

I’ve heard that the android-like android make-up of the uncanny valley is currently popular on TikTok, but I hadn’t thought of using glasses to express this point, but it’s quite interesting! Let’s look for some ‘uncanny valley glasses’!
