「ゾウ使い」館山
本日も館山、家族旅行中。本日は、市原ぞうの国。
現在はアジアゾウ９頭。アフリカゾウ１頭の１０頭という。タイのゾウの調教師の方々がショーをする。
本場タイのゾウ使いの方がいるのは、日本だとここだけではないだろうか？
またこちらは日本人初の少年ゾウ使いになった哲夢さん（映画「星になった少年」にもなっている）が育った園。もともと違法開発されて荒れたまま放置されていた土地を時間をかけて整理したものとのこと。
ゾウ使いがカマのようなアンカス（手鉤）を持っているので、
（アンカスは，最小の力で命令に従う効果が起きるよう に，非常に鋭く磨かれていなければならないが，ゾ ウに負傷を引き起こすほど鋭くてはならないという）
残酷だなどという意見もあるようだけれど、そんなこと言ったら、世の中の色々なことが残酷だ。とても良いショーだった。

Elephant messenger’, Tateyama.
Today in Tateyama too, on a family trip. Today, Ichihara Elephant Country.
There are currently nine Asian elephants and one African elephant. The number of elephants is said to be 10, including one African elephant. Elephant trainers from Thailand put on a show.
This is the only place in Japan to have elephant trainers from Thailand.
This is also the park where Tetsumu, the first Japanese boy to become an elephant trainer (also featured in the film ‘The Boy Who Became a Star’), grew up. The land was originally illegally developed and left in a state of disrepair, but has been cleaned up over time.
Some people say that the elephant handlers are cruel because they use ankas (hand hooks) like sickles, but this was not the case at all and it was a very good show.
(The ankas have to be very sharp and polished so that the effect of obeying commands with a minimum of force is achieved, but not so sharp as to injure the elephant).
