Today, Lake Geneva area. Geneva & Evian
Today, first thing in the morning, I drove to Geneva, Switzerland, to visit a nice glasses shop.

I thought I would need my passport to enter Switzerland, but since it is an EU, I can enter without any formalities at all, so when I drive around Lake Geneva, I find myself in Switzerland and in France before I know it.

When I arrived in Geneva, There were roads that were so crowded that you couldn’t go ahead even though other roads were empty, and the right and left turn lanes were so chaotic that you ended up in a tram lane . It is best to drive with a general sense of direction and local instincts, without looking at a detailed navigation system.

We also lost our underground parking ticket and the person who helped us with it spoke French , so we had a bit of a problem communicating with him.

It was my first time renting a car in Europe, so it was my first experience, or maybe it is the same in Japan, the underground parking is secure and you can’t walk into the parking lot . The car entry way is securely locked with a shutter, and the lift to the basement cannot be taken without a pin code printed after paying for the parking ticket.

I contacted the information desk, but the pin code was not printed . When I contacted the information desk again, they just issued me another ticket without pin code, so I couldn’t get through. There happened to be a person getting off at the car park, so I was able to. but I’ll keep my ticket!

After the spectacle shop, we went to St Pierre Cathedral, the Grand Fountain, a boat ride and the Patek Philippe Museum, which was recommended to us by the owner.

Afterwards, we left Geneva and headed north along Lake Geneva to Thonon. Here, the optician we were looking for was not independent , so we had a quick look around and looked for accommodation.

The accommodation is a large house in the countryside on the mountain, which we checked on the spot around 17:00 when we arrived in Thonon, and despite our last-minute booking at 17:00 and arrival at 18:00, we were treated very kindly. Excellent accommodation again today.

As usual, we asked the owner for a recommendation for a place to eat, and he told us that the town just below was Evian, famous for its mineral water. So, we decided to go to Evian and had dinner at the lakeside restaurant he recommended. We had a delicious meal.

This is the first time I have rented a car in Europe. Come to think of it, I have only driven in English-speaking countries such as the USA, Canada and Australia, so I didn’t feel it at all, but without English, I had a very hard time.

After all this time, I know how much I appreciate English.

We are also planning to spend one more day around Lake Geneva.
