小惑星へ転落の冥王星　it’s Pluto!!!

惑星からただの小惑星に格下げになってしまった冥王星。

自分の大好きな映画でもう1000回はみたんじゃないかという「Gattaca」

その中で、イーサン・ホーク演じるヴィンセントが子供の頃、惑星の距離を描いて遊んでいる時に、冥王星(Pluto)の位置においたリンゴを弟に食べられそうになり、it’s Pluto!!!と怒るというシーンがある。

このセリフが妙に印象に残っていて、惑星の中では、冥王星ことPlutoが一番気になる惑星だった。

ガタカの映画が出た時は、惑星だった冥王星は、同サイズの天体候補が見つかり、2006年に、ただの小惑星に転落してしまった。

ただこの冥王星。2015年に惑星探査機ニューホライズンが、近くを通過した際に、独特な大気があることを映し出した。下の映像がNASAの映像。

冥王星には、複雑な地気があって、有機化合物があり、断層、山脈、砂丘、窒素氷もあるという。

惑星からただの小惑星に格下げになってしまった冥王星。まだ調査はされていないけれど、氷原の下に海があれば、生物の跡もあるかもしれない。

今後惑星に戻ることはないとまずないと思うけれど、ぜひ驚くべき発見があってほしいものだ。

Pluto has been downgraded from a planet to just an asteroid.

Gattaca,” my favorite movie and one I’ve probably seen a thousand times already.

In the movie, there is a scene in which Vincent, played by Ethan Hawke, is playing as a child when he is drawing the distances of the planets, and his brother almost eats an apple that he put at the position of Pluto. and he gets angry with him.

It’s Pluto!!　

This line left a strange impression on me, and among the planets, Pluto was the one I was most interested in.

Pluto fell to a mere asteroid in 2006 after a similarly sized celestial candidate was found.

However, when the New Horizon spacecraft passed by the planet in 2015, it showed that Pluto has a unique atmosphere. The image below is from NASA.

Pluto has a complex ground atmosphere, organic compounds, mountain ranges, sand dunes, and nitrogen ice.

Pluto has been downgraded from a planet to just an asteroid. It hasn’t been studied yet, but if there are oceans under the ice fields, there may be traces of life.

I think it is unlikely that we will ever return to the planet in the future, but I would love to see some amazing discoveries.
