ジャレット・アイザックマンが、NASAの長官に返り咲いたというニュースが！

最初に彼が長官に指名されたとき、正直、嬉しかった。
民間出身の実業家で、しかも実際に宇宙に行っている。
宇宙を「理想」ではなく、「現場」として知っている人だと思ったからだ。

民間宇宙飛行を自ら率い、
SpaceXのミッションで宇宙を経験した人物。
NASAに新しい風を吹き込んでくれるはずだ、と期待していた。

ところが5月、突然トランプ大統領が指名を撤回。
政治的な理由──民主党への寄付や、イーロン・マスクとの関係──が報じられ、
「やっぱり簡単じゃないんだな」と落胆した。

それが、11月に再指名され、
12月17日に上院で承認、
翌18日に正式に就任。

結局、つく人はつく。

だから結局、自分がやるべきことは変わらない。

政治の動きを追いすぎず、
他人の評価を気にしすぎず、
目の前の仕事を、きちんとやる。

お客様に最高のメガネを、丁寧にご提案する。

派手なニュースじゃない。
でも、しっかりやっていれば、
いつか、誰かが見てくれる。

アイザックマン氏の就任を見て、改めて思う。
今一度、目の前の仕事を、きちんとやろう。

政治の風が吹いても、
信念は曲げず、コツコツと。

それが結局、
いちばん遠くまで行ける道なのかもしれない。

Jared Isaacman has returned as NASA Administrator.
When he was first nominated, I was genuinely happy about it.

A private-sector entrepreneur who has actually been to space—
someone who understands space not as an ideal, but as a workplace.
I felt he could bring a fresh, grounded perspective to NASA.

He led private space missions himself and experienced space through SpaceX.
I expected him to shake things up in a good way.

Then, in May, the nomination was suddenly withdrawn by President Trump.
Political reasons were reported—donations to Democrats, connections to Elon Musk—
and I remember thinking, it’s never that simple.

But then, in November, he was nominated again.
On December 17, the Senate approved him,
and on the 18th, he officially took office.

I don’t know what really happened behind the scenes.
All I know is the result:
he became NASA’s 15th Administrator.

In the end, people who belong somewhere tend to find their way back.
Those who are truly valued may take a detour,
but they are often recognized again, in time.

This isn’t just a story about space.

In politics, in business, in everyday work—
even if it looks like someone has fallen out of favor,
those who never get sloppy with their work are often picked up again somewhere else.

This news reminded me of something simple.
What really matters isn’t the position—it’s the substance.

A title without real work behind it is hollow.
And even without a title, solid work eventually gets noticed.

So what I need to do hasn’t changed.

Don’t get too caught up in politics.
Don’t worry too much about how others evaluate you.
Just do the work in front of you, carefully and honestly.

Open the shop.
Take time with each customer.
Recommend the best possible pair of glasses.

It’s not flashy.
But if you keep doing it properly,
someone is always watching.

Seeing Isaacman’s return reminded me of that.

Once again, I’ll focus on the work right in front of me.
Even when the political winds shift,
stay steady, stay patient.

That may be the longest road—but also the one that goes the farthest.
