昨日のブログで書いた、バンコクの素晴らしいメガネ屋「GIMM EYEWEAR」さん。GIMMさんのご紹介のご縁から、さらに新しい、最高の出会いが訪れた。

その名は「same old day」。

バンコクのタラートノイ（Talat Noi）やバンラック（Bangrak）といったエリアにある、ヴィンテージ眼鏡の専門店だ。

「same old day」という店名も面白い。毎日は同じように見えるけれど、実は一日一日が特別で、二度と戻らない。そんな想いが込められているのかもしれない。

お店、一回カフェで、スタイリッシュ！！タラートノイの、少しディープなエリアに佇むその店は、ヴィンテージやクラシックなデザインのフレームと、それらに影響を受けたオリジナルフレームを扱っている。

ヴィンテージはもちろんいいのだけれど、ヴィンテージからの復刻であるオリジナルもまた、本当に素敵で。一本一本に物語があって、店主の「これが好きなんだ」という声が、まるでフレームそのものから聞こえてくるよう。とにかく、店全体から、メガネが、そしてメガネを愛する人が、どうしようもなく好きなんだな、という純粋な気持ちが、ビンビンに伝わってくる。

ありがたいことに、自分が営む誠眼鏡として、この「same old day」さんと、新しくお取引をさせていただけることになった。近いうちに、彼らが選び抜いた物語のあるオリジナルフレームたちを、日本の皆さんにも紹介できると思う。

昨日のGIMMさんとの出会いもそうだったけれど、やっぱり「好き」という純粋な情熱は、国境も言葉の壁も、いとも簡単に超えていくんだな、と改めて実感する。

自分が本当に好きなものを追い求めていると、不思議と、同じように熱い想いを持った人たちと、まるで引き寄せられるように出会う。今回のバンコク出張は、まさにそのことを証明してくれているようだ。

バンコクで出会った、二つの素晴らしいメガネ屋。彼らの情熱に触れて、僕自身も、メガネ屋としての原点を改めて思い出した気がする。

この素晴らしい出会いと、新しいフレームたちを、日本の皆さんに届けられる日が、今から本当に楽しみだ。

GIMMさん、そしてsame old dayさん、とにかく素敵だ！！

“Like” Crosses Borders: A New Beginning with Bangkok’s Vintage Eyewear Shop, “same old day”

The wonderful Bangkok eyeglass shop I wrote about in yesterday’s blog, “GIMM EYEWEAR.” Through the connection of their introduction, another new, incredible encounter came my way.

Its name is “same old day.”

It’s a vintage eyewear specialty shop located in areas of Bangkok like Talat Noi and Bangrak. The name “same old day” is interesting too. Every day might seem the same, but in reality, each and every day is special and will never come again. Perhaps that’s the sentiment put into the name.

The shop, with its cafe on the first floor, is so stylish!! Located in the slightly edgier area of Talat Noi, the store handles vintage and classic design frames, as well as original frames inspired by them.

The vintage pieces are of course wonderful, but the original frames, which are reproductions of vintage styles, are also truly amazing. Each and every pair has a story, and it’s as if you can hear the owner’s voice coming from the frames themselves, saying, “I just love this.” Anyway, you get this pure, palpable feeling from the entire shop that they just uncontrollably love eyeglasses, and the people who love eyeglasses.

Thankfully, as Makoto Eyewear, which I run, we will be able to start a new business partnership with “same old day.” I think I’ll be able to introduce the story-filled original frames they’ve selected to everyone in Japan soon.

It was the same with my encounter with GIMM yesterday, but I’ve realized anew that the pure passion of “like” easily crosses borders and language barriers.

When you truly pursue what you love, you strangely get drawn to and meet people who hold the same kind of passionate feelings. This business trip to Bangkok seems to be proving exactly that.

Two wonderful eyeglass shops I met in Bangkok. Touching their passion, I feel like I’ve remembered my own origins as an eyeglass shop owner again.

I’m truly looking forward to the day I can deliver this wonderful encounter and these new frames to everyone in Japan.

GIMM and same old day, you are both simply wonderful!!
