現実歪曲空間のような店──それが恵比寿にあるインディアンジュエリーのお店、GOD TRADINGだ。

日々、誠眼鏡店でお客様と向き合っていると、「モノを売る」という行為は、ただ商品の良し悪しだけで決まるわけではないと痛感する。どんな空間で、誰と関わって、どんな物語の中でそのモノに出会うのか。それがすべてを左右する。そんなことを、これほどまでに体感させられる店は他にない。

店内に足を踏み入れると、そこには圧倒されるような美しいインディアンジュエリーが並んでいる。ガラスケース越しに光を放つそれぞれのジュエリーは、単なる商品ではなく、まるで一本の映画のように、ひとつひとつに物語が宿っているような力強さがある。そして何より、その空間の中心にいるのがオーナーの今井さん。彼の存在が、店全体に強烈な引力を生み出している。

正直に言えば、自分がその店でジュエリーを購入したのは一度きり。そのときも、最初は買うつもりなんてまったくなかった。ただふらっと覗きに行っただけ。それが、今井さんと話しているうちに、気づいたら手に取っていた。そして買っていた。しかも、それなりの価格のものを。でも不思議と、買ったあとに残るのは「やってしまった…」という後悔ではなく、「ああ、買ってよかったな」というじんわりとした満足感だった。

今井さんは“ストーリーで売る人”だ。ただ商品の説明をするのではなく、その背景にあるアーティストの想いや、文化的な意味、ジュエリーに込められた魂を語る。その語りがまた自然で、押しつけがましくなく、それでいて心の奥にスッと入り込んでくる。商品の魅力というよりも、今井さんという存在と、その空間で共有されるストーリー、それすべてが合わさって、「欲しい」と感じさせてしまう。気づけば「これを手にすることで、自分の中の何かが変わるかもしれない」とまで思ってしまっている。

それが本当にすごいなと思う。

結局、自分がもっとも影響を受けているのは、こういう部分なのだと思う。モノのスペックや価格ではなく、そこにあるストーリー。そして、そのストーリーにどれだけお客様の心を動かす力があるか。

買ったのは一度だけ。実際に訪れたのも、二度きり。でもそれだけで、ここまで語りたくなる場所って、そうそうない。だからこそ、あの店にはなるべく近づかないようにしている。だって、また行ったらまた買ってしまうから（笑）。それくらい、自分の中で“危険な”場所。

でも、本音を言えば、また行きたい。あの空気にもう一度触れたい。そして、自分の店でも、ほんの少しでもあの空気感に近づけるような場所づくりをしてみたいと思っている。

そして気づく。自分が誠眼鏡店も、きっと同じだ。ストーリーがあれば、大切にされる。想いがあるから、長く使ってもらえる。メガネという道具を超えて、人生の中で“意味を持つ一本”を届けることが、自分の役割なんじゃないかと、あらためて思う。

今井さんのように、モノの先にある「物語」を丁寧に届けられる人間でありたい。

The Shop I Try to Stay Away From – GOD TRADING

There’s a place in Ebisu that feels like a reality distortion field—an Indian jewelry store called GOD TRADING.

Working every day at Makoto Megane, helping customers find their perfect pair of glasses, I’m constantly reminded that selling something isn’t just about the product’s specs or price. It’s about the space, the people, and the story surrounding it. Nowhere have I felt that more than in this store.

When you step inside, you’re immediately struck by the beauty of the jewelry on display. Behind the glass, each piece seems to glow with a presence that goes far beyond its physical form. It’s as if every item holds its own story—like stepping into a movie where each object has a soul. And at the center of it all is the owner, Mr. Imai. His presence alone creates a magnetic pull that fills the entire space.

To be honest, I’ve only ever bought one piece from GOD TRADING. And I had no intention of buying anything when I walked in. I just wanted to have a look. But after talking with Mr. Imai, I found myself holding something… and buying it. It wasn’t cheap. But strangely, I felt no regret afterward. In fact, I felt deeply satisfied. I was happy I had bought it.

Mr. Imai doesn’t “sell” in the usual sense. He shares stories. He speaks not just about the materials or designs, but about the artists, their values, the cultural meaning behind each piece, and the soul embedded in every creation. And the way he speaks—unassuming, natural, full of warmth—somehow reaches deep inside. It’s not just about the item itself. It’s Mr. Imai, the atmosphere he creates, and the story he shares that make you feel like you need the piece. It’s like the item whispers to you, “I’ll change something in you.”

That’s what truly amazes me.

What influences me the most isn’t price tags or specs—it’s this. How much a story can move someone’s heart. How much a meaningful narrative can ignite a customer’s emotion.

I’ve only been there twice. Only bought once. But the fact that I’m still thinking about it—and writing about it—says everything. That’s why I try not to go back. Because I know I’ll buy again. That place is dangerous in the best possible way.

But honestly… I want to go again. I want to be in that atmosphere again. And someday, I want to create a space in my own store that captures just a little of that magic.

And then it hits me—what I try to offer at Makoto Megane might not be so different. When there’s a story, things are treasured. When there’s feeling behind it, things are kept and loved for years. My role is more than just helping someone choose a pair of glasses. It’s delivering a piece that holds meaning in their life.

I want to be someone who, like Mr. Imai, delivers not just a product—but the story behind it, with care.
