Rayban ✖️ Meta 当たり前になる前に未来に賭ける？

昨日、イタリアより日本に帰国。Rayban Metaが日本で買えないので、今回買ってきた。まだ別にやれることは多くないのだけれど、「Hi meta, take a picture」で写真を撮ってくれたり、ビデオをぱっと撮ってくれるところは、地味に使える。今は携帯で写真もすぐ撮れる時代だけれど、両手を塞がずに音声でサクッと撮影できるっていう、ほんのひと手間の短縮がこんなにラクになるんだなと驚く。

さらに、ガジェットもたまに神がかったものが出てくる。自分の中での最近のベストヒットはInsta360 X4。これ、本当にすごくて、電源を入れてずっと動画を回してるだけで、かなりイイ映像を撮ってくれる。iPhoneを持った手の中にただ握ってるだけでOK。後から見返すと、ちゃんと面白いシーンを全部拾えてるから助かる。

こういう“新しいデバイス”とか“AIツール”は、「未来への投資」っていうとちょっと大袈裟だけれど、やっぱりどんどん試したほうがいいなと思う。AIや新たなツールがコモディティ化して値段が下がる前に、どれだけ先行者メリットを取れるかが勝負。歴史を振り返ってみても、「最高の技術」を持っていることだけが重要なのではなく、多くの場合、その技術を的確なタイミングで発表したり採用したりすることが重要なのは間違いない。自分は過去に戻りたいと願う人間ではないけれど、「もう少し早く行動していれば」と思ったことは数え切れないほどある。

だから、今後、自分はぶらぶらして待つのではなく、可能な限り新しいチャンスを掴もうと決めた多少無理してでも、片っ端から試す。とにかく全振り。思いつく限りのやり方で、先回りして仕掛ける。そう決めた。センスなんて言う前に、数を打つしかない。アイデアも試行錯誤も、くだらなくてもどんどん形にする。AIもどんどん使う。失敗してもいいから、とりあえず“多産”の精神でアウトプットを積み上げる。

もちろん、Ray-Ban Metaスマートグラスには潜在的な「リスク」と「癖」がある。米GizmodoのKyle Barrのレポートによると、フィギュアやコミックなど特定のアイテムを見せると、AIは的外れなことを言ったり、まったく事実と異なることを言ったりすることがあるという。時にはPS5をPS4と間違えたり、自分よりも詳しいふりをすることもある。また、プライバシーに関する懸念もある。あなたの写真がトレーニングのためにMetaのサーバーに送られるかもしれないし、ハッキングや不正な顔認証のリスクもある。実際、大学生グループがレイバンのスマートグラスを改造して顔認識を可能にしたというニュースもあった。

つまり、これらのガジェットは非常に便利だけれど、それなりのリスクも伴うということだ。それでも、潜在的なメリットは大きい。Insta360 X4の「神のような撮影体験」は、たとえ小さな機能であっても、私の日常生活や制作するコンテンツを全く変えてしまう可能性があることを教えてくれた。レイバンのメタグラスも同じような興奮を与えてくれる。ハンズフリーで写真を撮ったり録画したりできるのは、かなり病みつきになる。そして、このようなツールを早い段階で使いこなすことができれば、思いがけないアイデアがひらめいたり、この先の大躍進につながるかもしれない。

結局、大事なのはやっぱり“タイミング”。AIやその他の新しいツールが本格的なコモディティ化を迎える前に、どれだけ多くの実験を事前に行えるかがカギとなる。個人的には、お金であれ、時間であれ、エネルギーであれ、現在のリソースを、今後未来に大きく投資したい。見逃して何もしなければ、後悔するだけだ。

世の中がどう変わろうとも、「遅すぎる」ということはない。自分にしかできないことは必ずあるし、過去の経験が突然かけがえのないものになる可能性もある。だからこそ、とにかく未来に向けて全振り。たとえ失敗したとしても、いくつかのものを失ったとしても、その一歩を踏み出すことが、今の小さな一歩が、未来を劇的に変えるかもしれない。最近、つくづくそう感じる。

Ray-Ban ✖️ Meta — Betting on the Future Before It Becomes the Norm?

I just returned to Japan from Italy yesterday, and picked up a pair of Ray-Ban Meta glasses while I was there, since you still can’t buy them in Japan. Right now, they can’t do a whole lot, but being able to say “Hi, Meta, take a picture” or quickly record a video by voice command is surprisingly handy. Sure, it’s already easy enough to take photos with a smartphone, but it’s amazing how such a small convenience—snapping photos hands-free—can make life feel that much simpler.

Once in a while, a gadget comes along that feels downright miraculous. My personal favorite right now is the Insta360 X4. It’s incredible—just turn on the power and let it record continuously, and it captures surprisingly good footage. You can simply hold it like an iPhone without needing to do much else. Later, when you review the video, it’s gotten all the fun moments on its own, which is a huge help.

These kinds of new devices and AI tools might sound like an over-the-top “investment in the future,” but I’m convinced it’s worth trying them out sooner rather than later. The game is all about how much of a head start you can get before AI and other new tools become commoditized and prices drop. Looking at history, it’s not just “the best technology” that matters—often, it’s about having it at just the right time. I’m not someone who wants to go back in time, but there have been countless moments when I’ve thought, “If only I’d acted a bit sooner.”

So, from now on, I’ve decided not to just hang around and wait for things to happen. I’ll push myself, even if it’s a bit of a stretch, to seize every new opportunity. I’m going all-in, ready to try everything I can think of, always one step ahead. Before I worry about having the perfect “sense” or idea, I’ll just keep throwing stuff at the wall to see what sticks—lots of ideas, plenty of trial and error, even if it seems silly. I’m also going to use AI extensively. Even if I fail, I’ll chalk it up to valuable experience. I’m going to embrace a “high-volume production” mindset and keep outputting as much as I can.

Of course, the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses do come with certain “risks” and “quirks.” According to a report by Kyle Barr at Gizmodo (U.S.), the AI will sometimes say off-base or completely inaccurate things when shown specific items like figurines or comics. Sometimes it mistakes a PS5 for a PS4 or pretends to know more than it does. There are also privacy concerns: your photos could be sent to Meta’s servers for training, and there’s always the risk of hacking or unauthorized facial recognition. In fact, there was news about a group of college students modifying Ray-Ban smart glasses to enable facial recognition.

So, while these gadgets are incredibly convenient, they come with their fair share of risks. That said, the potential upside is huge. The “godlike filming experience” I’ve had with the Insta360 X4 taught me that even a small feature can completely change my daily life and the content I create. I’m getting a similar rush from the Ray-Ban Meta glasses; being able to shoot photos and record video hands-free is pretty addictive. If you can master such devices early on, you might have a breakthrough idea or pave the way for major success later on.

In the end, it’s all about timing. Before AI and other emerging technologies become fully commoditized, the key is how many experiments you can run in advance. As for me, I plan on investing the resources I have—be it money, time, or energy—into the future. If you do nothing and let opportunities pass by, you’ll only regret it.

No matter how the world changes, it’s never truly “too late.” There’s always something only you can do, and there’s always a chance your past experiences will suddenly become invaluable. That’s why I’ve reaffirmed my decision not to let fear of risk stop me. Even if I fail, that failure is a privilege of being an early mover—an experience no one else can replicate. Sure, I might lose a few things along the way, but taking that step could also completely change my future. Lately, I’ve really come to believe that.
