すごい！！胃カメラに代わる新たな検査デバイスとして登場「PillBot」。

これ、SF映画の未来が現実になったような印象を受ける。このカプセルサイズのロボットは、カメラ、コンピューター、アンテナ、推進システムを備え、外部から制御して胃や腸の中を自由に動くことができる。従来の内視鏡検査とは異なり、非侵襲的で麻酔を必要としないため、患者にストレスのない快適な検査を提供する。また、検査後は自然に排泄されるように設計されているため、回収の必要もない！

この技術が実用化されれば、すごい！！おそらく、体内に入るロボットがどんどん開発されるだろう。もうまさに、科学者たちが潜水艦を小型化して人間の体内に入り、病気の治療を試みるというストーリーのSF映画『ミクロの決死圏』。逆に、飲み込むカプセルのサイズに爆発物や毒物を仕込むことで、映画『トータル・リコール』などのSFストーリーのように、爆発物や毒素が入ったカプセルサイズの装置が悪用され、身体に直接害を及ぼす可能性も現実のものとなるかもしれない。

とはいえ、PillBotのようなカメラ付きロボットが普及すれば、体を切り刻むような外科的な侵襲を避け、より安全で負担の少ない医療が実現できる。今後の未来の医療には、技術と倫理のバランスが求められるのは、どの分野も間違いなさそうだ。テクノロジーは光と影。
