うちは6人家族。娘が3人、息子が1人。考え方次第では、4人の子供を持つということは、自分自身を4つに分けるようなものかもしれない。たとえ自分が生き返ることはできなくても、子供たちがそれぞれ別の形で人生を続けてくれる。

同じ遺伝子を持っていても、環境や時代によって性格が変わると言われているように、4人の子供を持つことは、まるで異なる時代に4つの人生を生きているような感覚にさせてくれる。

たとえば、自分が何かに熱中したり、新しいことにチャレンジしたりすると、子供たちはその姿に少なからず影響を受けます。そして、彼らが成長し、それぞれの道を歩んでいくとき、彼らの中に自分の影響や精神が息づいているのを感じることができたなら、それもまた、彼らが代わりに自分の人生を別の時代で生きてくれているように感じることができる。

もちろん、子供たちは彼ら自身の人生を歩んでいくわけだけれど、その中に少しでも自分のエッセンスが加わっていると思うと、なんだか自分が若返ったような気持ちになる。

こう考えると、家族という存在が改めて面白く、そして特別なものだと感じます。生き返ることはできなくても、自分の命が家族の中で続いていく。そして、そこに尊敬できる家族という要素が加わることで、その価値はさらに大きくなっていく。もし家族の中に尊敬できる人がいたとしたら、それは本当に素晴らしいことだ。

Four Parts of Myself

We’re a family of six—three daughters and one son. Depending on how you look at it, having four children might be like splitting yourself into four parts. Even though we can’t come back to life, our children continue to live their lives in different ways.

Even though they share the same genes, their personalities change depending on the environment and era they grow up in. In this way, having four children gives the feeling of living four different lives in different times.

For example, when you immerse yourself in something or take on new challenges, your children are inevitably influenced by what they see. And as they grow up and walk their own paths, if you can sense that your influence and spirit live on within them, it’s like they’re living your life in a different era on your behalf.

Of course, they’ll live their own lives, but knowing that even a small part of your essence is within them can make you feel as if you’ve been rejuvenated.

Thinking this way, the concept of family becomes even more fascinating and special. Even though you can’t come back to life, your legacy continues through your family. And when you add the element of having a family member you respect, that value becomes even greater. If there is someone within your family whom you deeply respect, that’s truly something wonderful.
