デルタ航空の5,100便のフライトがキャンセルということで、なぜかと思ったら、サイバーセキュリティ会社 CrowdStrikeがWindowsデバイスに誤ったソフトウェアアップデートを配信したのが理由だという。

企業や組織のコンピュータを守るためのソフトウェアを提供しているCrowdStrikeが、今回誤ったソフトウェアアップデートを配信、このアップデートがWindowsデバイスにうまく適用されず、世界中の多くのWindowsデバイスが使用不能になったという。そのため、世界中の約850万台のWindowsデバイスが使用不能になり、これによりデルタの5100便のフライトがキャンセル。病院の手術が延期される、スターバックスのモバイルオーダーシステムが停止しなど、日常生活にも大きな混乱を招いたという。

まるで、映画「サマーウォーズ」や「攻殻機動隊」の世界。技術の依存度が高まる現代社会では、誰かが本気を出せば、都市一個の機能を停止させるぐらいできる時代にすでになっているのかもしれない。

5,100 Delta Air Lines flights have been cancelled because cyber security company CrowdStrike issued an incorrect software update for Windows devices.

CrowdStrike, which provides software to protect corporate and enterprise computers, delivered an incorrect software update that was not successfully applied to Windows devices, rendering many Windows devices around the world unusable. As a result, approximately 8.5 million Windows devices worldwide were rendered unusable, resulting in the cancellation of 5100 Delta flights. Hospital surgeries were postponed, Starbucks’ mobile ordering system was shut down, and other disruptions to daily life were reported.
