現在マカオ。国内の小さなことしか見えない。

現在マカオ。2月に行ったインドもそうだけれど、日本の物価のほうが今は安い。マカオのチームラボなんて、日本の3倍の価格。マカオのとなりの中国珠海の変化も著しい。

たとえばインド工科大学（Indian Institutes of Technology）。ここは、アジアにおける中国とのパワーバランスを考えて、ケネディ政権が支援。1950年代以降インド各地に設立、競争率60倍と言われるような理系の超難関大学が、インド人の数学能力と相まって、現在シリコンバレーで起業する4人に1人がインド人と言われる原動力になったといわれている。

日本は本当にすばらしい国だけれど、常に日本にいると、その良さにも気づけなくなる。当たり前になる。そして国内の小さなことしか見えなくなってしまう。

そもそも、チームラボは日本の企業だけれど、来年アブダビでもどでかい施設をオープン予定だし絶好調。ただ日本が弱くなっている、弱くなっている、困った、困ったではなく、自分も国内と海外、大きな目で何かを常に見れるようにありたい。

Today I am in Macau again. Macau is now more expensive than Japan, just like India, which I visited in February. Team Lab in Macau is three times more expensive than in Japan. Macau’s neighbour, Zhuhai in China, is also changing rapidly.

For example, the Indian Institutes of Technology were established in various parts of India in the 1950s. It is said that their mathematical skills are the driving force behind why one in four entrepreneurs in Silicon Valley today is Indian.

Japan is a truly wonderful country, but if you have been in Japan all your life, you don’t realise how good it is. You take it for granted. And you start to think about things from a small Japanese perspective.

For example, TeamLab is a Japanese company, but it is doing very well all over the world and is planning to open a huge facility in Abu Dhabi next year. I always want to be able to look at something on the world stage, whether in Japan or abroad, with big eyes and actually act on it, rather than saying that Japan is getting weaker and harder.
