Blandness.
The landscape you see all the time is so obvious that you lose appreciation for it. Just as the sea moves me, Tokyo, where I now live, can be exciting from the point of view of someone for whom Tokyo is extraordinary.
From my workplace, Makoto Opticians, which has been in business for 15 years, I can see the night view of Shinjuku every day, just as in the first scene of the TV drama Midnight Diner. The night view from the footbridge is exactly the same as the opening scene, so a certain number of people come all the way to the footbridge every day to take pictures.
For me, it is also an everyday path on my way to work. For me, it’s everyday life and I don’t feel any gratitude for it, but on the other hand, for people who aren’t used to it, it might be a stimulating point.
No matter how good a place is, if it’s the place where you were born and grew up, you don’t feel anything? Is there such a thing as a truly inspiring view that lasts forever?
