「憧れるのをやめましょう」

大谷翔平さんがWBCの決勝戦でエリート選手がそろうアメリカ代表戦との前に語った言葉だという。

自分は、エベレストやウルトラマンなどに挑戦する前は、欧米人の方々に無駄に憧れを抱いていた時期があった。でも結局みんな一緒だった。人種関係なく、すごい人はすごい。ダメな人はダメ。

だから別に良い。すべて良い。すごい人はすごい。でも自分だって良い。自己受容のバランスがきっと大切だ。

These were the words of Shohei Ohtani before the WBC final against the US national team, a team full of elite athletes.

Before I tried Everest and Ultraman, there was a time when I had a vain admiration for Westerners. But in the end, we were all the same. Regardless of race, great people are great. ordinary people are ordinary.

So it doesn’t matter. Great people are great. But I am good too. The balance of self-acceptance is certainly important.
