初めての一人旅。

4月から高校になる甥が、海外に行きたいと言っているので、無事高校進学が決まったら１週間ほど海外の予定。

今までの人生で自分にとって何がプラスになったかと聞かれたら、間違いなく一人旅と答える。特に文化も慣習も違う海外への一人旅。

学生自体に一人旅にハマったけれど、今振り返ってみても、自分の人生に間違いなく欠かせない体験。日本という安全な場所、ぬくぬくとした場所から非日常の世界へ出て自分の意思で判断、自分のしたいように時間を過ごせる一方、自分の判断で痛い目にも遭う。

限定的なコミュニティの中だけにいると、例えば学校でうまくいかない、会社でうまくいかない、そんなとき、そこで終わりだと人生もすべてが終わりのように感じてしまうけれど、じつはまったくそういったことはなく、どこまででも生きられる世界が広がっている。

良い学校？良い教育？子供たちにどうあって欲しい？何か一つだけ提示するならなんですか？と聞かれたら、間違いなく自分は「一人旅」と答えるだろう。文化も慣習もまったく違う海外へ一人旅は、絶対に人生で必要な要素だ。

First time travelling alone.
My nephew, who starts high school in April, wants to go abroad, so I plan to go abroad for a week after he successfully completes his high school education.

If you ask me what has been positive for me in my life so far, I would definitely say travelling alone.

I fell in love with travelling alone when I was a student, but looking back now, it is definitely an essential experience in my life. While you can leave the safety and comfort of Japan and go out into the extraordinary world to make your own decisions and spend your time the way you want, you can also get hurt by your own decisions.

For example, if you’re in a limited community and you’re not doing well at school or at work, you might feel that’s the end of your life, but that’s not the case at all, and there’s a whole world out there where you can live anywhere you want.

Good school? A good education? What do you want for your children? If you could only offer one thing, what would it be? If you asked me, I would definitely say ‘travel alone’. Travelling alone to a foreign country with a different culture and customs is an absolutely necessary part of life.
