::::
::::

Writers steal from life John le Carré
Again today, just yesterday, an excerpt from the memoirs of former MI6 novelist John le Carré on Apple TV+.
::::
Writers steal from life. It’s a creative method used by lonely people. They borrow from others, distill their experiences and assemble them into a kind of package. They publish it. It’s like a magician.
::::
I forget which writer said: “A writer can say anything he wants if he lets his characters speak. That doesn’t negate the author. On the contrary, if you use discriminatory language in a situation where you are explaining a situation, you will immediately get complaints.
It is quite interesting that any character can appear in fiction without denying the humanity of the writer, as long as they are made to speak as characters.
