「知性」とは「答えの無い問い」を問う力。過去の歴史が経験したことのない状況に人類が直面していく時代において、我々が未来を知るためには「経験」に依拠した社会科学には限界があり「想像」に依拠した文学、特にSF文学が、大きな役割を果たすことになるだろう。

真に「人間学」を学びたいのであれば、 優れた人物の印象的な「エピソード」 が書かれた自伝やルポルタージュを読 むことや、小説や映画やアニメを通じて、人間心理を生々しく描いた「物語」 を読み、観ることこそが「人間学」 を学ぶ良い方法となる。

これを見たからというわけではないけれど、以前はビジネス書をメインに読んでいたけれど、最近は、小説が9割。

直面したことのない状況に柔軟に対処できる人物というのは、間違いなく有能なタイプ。どんな世界でも生きていけるだろう。自分もそんな人間になりたい。

Intelligence is the ability to ask questions that have no answers. At a time when humanity is facing situations that have never been experienced in the past, social science, which relies on ‘experience’, has its limits, and literature, especially science fiction literature, which relies on ‘imagination’, will play an important role in helping us to know the future.

If we really want to learn ‘anthropology’, the best way is to read autobiographies and reportages with memorable ‘episodes’ of outstanding people, and to read and watch stories that vividly depict human psychology through novels, films and animations.

Not necessarily because of that, but because I used to read mainly business books, but now 90% of my reading is novels.　A person who can deal flexibly with situations he has never faced before is definitely a competent type of person. He would be able to live in any world. I want to become such a person.
