住居ビルとしてはアフリカ最高の高さ、白人富裕層の象徴とまでいわれたが、アパルトヘイト終了後の1990年代にギャングが侵入し治安が荒廃してかつての住民はほとんどが退去してしまい、ヒルブロウ地区の犯罪の象徴となったというビル。

電気もすべて止められ、54階建のビルで17階までゴミが積み上がっていたこともあるとか、現在はゴミの撤去も完了しているというが、ものすごいビルだったよう。

失うものが何もなく、どんなことになってもかまわない「無敵の人」の巣窟。

1960年代の九龍城のビル版？2008年ごろの麻薬組織の抗争が絶えず昼から銃撃戦が絶えなかったというメキシコのシウダー・フアレスのビル版？

人の行動というのは、時に本当にわからない。

Once considered Africa’s finest residential building and a symbol of white affluence, it became a symbol of crime in the Hillbrow area after the end of apartheid in the 1990s, when gangs invaded, security was devastated and most of the former residents moved out.

Electricity was cut off and rubbish piled up to the 17th floor of the 54-storey building, which is now said to have been cleared, but it was a terrible building.
