「子供や妻がいなければ、ここまでにはなれなかった」
ボクシングのチャンピオンの方のお話を聞いた。
ボクシングのチャンピオンで11回防衛など、そういった方は独り身で、もともと恐怖など感じない。才能の塊のような方というイメージがあったけれど、どうやらそうではなくて、ほとんどのチャンピオンが家庭持ちだと言う。
「子供や妻がいなければ、ここまでにはなれなかった」
そういった話を聞いて、自分もよく講演で言っている、エベレストは妻や子がいなければ、踏ん張りがつかず登れなかっただろうというのとまったく同じだと思った。
妻や子、そして会社など背負うものが多ければ、多いほど人は踏ん張りがきくようになるのかもしれない。
またチャンピオンでも辞めたいとも思うし、恐怖も感じるということだった。
そういうものに打ち勝ってこそ、世界NO１にたてるのだろう。
守るものか。
